Autonomy Software Engineer
Overview
As Autonomy Software Engineer, you will develop flight autonomy capabilities for Hermeus’ supersonic aircraft. You’ll build software for guidance, navigation, mission autonomy, and control, collaborating with pilots, GNC, simulation, and operations teams. You own cross-functional problems from design to flight testing, shaping how aircraft navigate and execute missions. This role offers meaningful impact on autonomy roadmap and system integration in a fast-paced defense-aviation environment.

ResponsibilitiesDevelop modern C++ software for flight autonomy, guidance, navigation, and controlDesign and implement mission-autonomy behaviors and vehicle decision-makingDevelop and integrate guidance and control loops for unmanned aircraftSupport integration, evaluation, and validation of navigation sensors and navigation solutionsIntegrate autonomy capabilities into existing aircraft software architectures and C2 systemsDevelop automated test suites, simulation scenarios, and utilities to verify autonomy performanceCollaborate with GNC and simulation engineers to test and validate autonomy algorithmsDefine and execute the autonomy roadmap with RPA pilots and flight-operations teamsIntegrate autonomy software with vehicle systems, communications, ground systems, and operator interfacesDiagnose and resolve complex problems spanning autonomy software, vehicle dynamics, navigation, simulation, and C2 interfacesParticipate in software-in-the-loop, HIL, ground-test, and flight-test activitiesOwn technical problems from investigation through implementation, integration, testing, and operational useDrive solutions across multidisciplinary teams in rapidly evolving environments
Key requirementsBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Robotics, or a related technical fieldStrong proficiency with modern C++, including production-quality software developmentStrong software-engineering fundamentals: architecture, debugging, testing, performance-conscious developmentExperience developing software for unmanned aircraft, autonomous vehicles, robotics, spacecraft, or similar autonomous systemsExperience with guidance and control algorithms, control loops, trajectory generation, or vehicle guidance softwareExperience developing or integrating flight or mission-autonomy capabilitiesExperience developing or integrating navigation systems, sensors, or state-estimation solutionsAbility to work across software, GNC, simulation, systems, operations, and other engineering disciplinesDemonstrated ability to independently identify technical problems and drive resolutionExperience integrating complex software into larger vehicle or robotic-system architecturescross-functional collaborationproblem-solvingself-starting / ownershipmodern C++autonomy softwareguidance, navigation and control
