We are seeking an analytical and experienced Financial Planning Analyst to help provide insight and information to guide decisions as we continue to strive to grow our business. This role is integral to our strategic decision-making process, providing critical insights and financial analysis to guide Springer Publishing Company’s growth and success. Purpose: Reporting to the Director, Financial Planning and Analysis, this position offers a unique opportunity to gain an understanding of all aspects of the business, interacting with all functional areas, exposure to senior management and advancement through increased responsibility. The role involves providing comprehensive financial analysis, supporting budget, and forecasting activities, and delivering actionable insights to drive strategic initiatives. Utilize system and partner data to draw insight from analysis and present data in a clear and succinct format for use by senior management and department heads. The data collection effort includes keeping an awareness and understanding of the integrity of the product and customer information driving the analysis. Key Responsibilities:Financial Reporting and Analysis: Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports. Provide detailed analysis of financial performance, identifying trends and variances. Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial reports. Utilize the insights to guide senior management in decision-making.Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in the development of annual budgets and quarterly forecasts. Monitor and report on budget vs. actual performance. Analyze variances to understand their causes and implications. Collaborate with various departments to ensure forecasts are aligned with overall business strategies.Data Management: Collect, analyze, and interpret financial data from various sources to provide accurate and timely information to management. Compile and analyze data to support sales and expense forecasts and identify trends causing variances. Manage inventory reporting, analysis, and management. Ensure data integrity and consistency across all reports and analyses.Strategic Planning Support: Work closely with senior management to develop and implement financial strategies that support the company's long-term goals. Conduct financial modeling and scenario analysis to support strategic decisions. Provide insights and recommendations based on thorough financial analysis. Monitor the implementation of financial strategies to ensure alignment with company objectives.Stakeholder Communication: Present financial findings and recommendations to senior management and other stakeholders in a clear and concise manner. Prepare presentations for Key Account Strategy reviews. Communicate complex financial information in an understandable way. Ensure stakeholders are informed and engaged in financial decision-making processes.Process Improvement: Evaluate current financial reporting processes, identify areas for improvement, and implement changes to enhance efficiency and accuracy. Conduct regular reviews of sales processes and provide input on how they may be improved or streamlined. Develop and implement new methodologies for better financial reporting. Monitor the impact of implemented changes to ensure continuous improvement.Special Projects: Manage various projects and ad-hoc requests. Ensure projects are completed on time and within scope. Provide detailed analysis and reporting for special projects as needed. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve project objectives.Minimum Requirements:Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field. A master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., CFA, CPA) are highly desirable and will be considered a plus.Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in business analytics, financial analysis, or a related role. Experience within the publishing, healthcare, or education industries is advantageous.Technical Proficiency: Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions such as VLOOKUPs, arrays, macros, and pivot tables. Experience with other data analysis tools and financial modeling software is also essential.Business Intelligence Systems: Familiarity with business intelligence systems like Acumen, Business Objects, PowerBi, Tableau, Cognos, or similar tools is a plus. The ability to leverage these systems for advanced data analysis and reporting is highly beneficial.Analytical and Critical Thinking Skills: Excellent analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills. The capability to interpret complex data sets, identify trends, and provide actionable insights is crucial.Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex financial information clearly and concisely. The ability to communicate effectively across all levels within the company, including senior management and department heads, is required.Independence and Multitasking: Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment are essential.Hybrid Work Environment: This is a hybrid position requiring the incumbent to be in the office three times a week.
