Position Title: Business Intelligence DeveloperLocation: Remote (preference to Mid-Atlantic region)Position Status: ContractAbout The RoleWe are seeking a skilled Business Intelligence (BI) Developer to design, develop, and deliver impactful Power BI solutions that enable data-driven decision-making across the organization. This role focuses on building scalable semantic data models, dashboards, and reports, while translating complex data into compelling visual stories for business stakeholders.Key ResponsibilitiesData Modeling & Power BI DevelopmentDesign, develop, and maintain Power BI semantic layers (data models) to support scalable analytics and reportingBuild and optimize Power BI dashboards and reports aligned with business requirements and design standardsDevelop wireframes and translate them into high-quality, user-friendly visualizationsEnsure performance optimization of datasets, models, and reportsData Transformation & IntegrationUse Power Query and M language to extract, transform, and shape data from multiple sourcesPerform data cleaning, merging, appending, and transformation of complex datasetsEnsure accuracy, consistency, and integrity of data across reporting solutionsAnalytics, Visualization & StorytellingApply advanced data visualization techniques to present insights clearly and effectivelySelect appropriate visuals based on data type and business contextPartner with stakeholders to translate data into meaningful narratives and business insightsSQL & Database InteractionWrite and optimize SQL queries to extract, manipulate, and validate data from relational databasesAnalyze data relationships and ensure efficient data structure designPower BI Service & DeploymentPublish and manage reports using Power BI ServiceConfigure data refresh schedules, troubleshoot performance and refresh issuesMaintain governance, standards, and best practices for BI reportingRequired Qualifications3+ years of Power BI development experience (data modeling, dashboards, semantic layers)5+ years of SQL experience with strong querying and data manipulation skills3+ years working with Azure environments and relational databasesStrong Experience WithPower Query and M languageDAX (Data Analysis Expressions) for advanced calculations and metricsSolid understanding of relational data models and data warehousing conceptsAdvanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)Excellent communication and data storytelling skills with the ability to present insights clearlyPreferred QualificationsExperience with Azure Data Services (Data Factory, Synapse, etc.)Knowledge of data governance, data quality, and BI best practicesExperience working in Agile or cross-functional environmentsFamiliarity with enterprise BI standards and scalable reporting frameworksWhat We’re Looking ForAnalytical mindset with the ability to quickly understand business context and data relationshipsAttention to detail with a focus on accuracy, usability, and performanceAbility to work independently while collaborating effectively with stakeholdersPassion for transforming data into actionable insights and impactful visualizationsAbout Seneca ResourcesAt Seneca Resources, we are more than just a staffing and consulting firm, we are a trusted career partner.
