Drone Pilot I - Utility UAV Inspection

Job SummaryThe Drone Pilot I supports aerial inspection operations of overhead transmission and distribution infrastructure using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). This role focuses on safe, compliant flight execution and accurate data capture under the direction of a Flight Supervisor or senior pilot. The Drone Pilot I is expected to follow established flight plans, inspection protocols, and safety requirements while working in challenging terrain and environmental conditions.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesOperates UAV platforms to collect visual inspection data of overhead power lines, structures, and associated equipment.Conducts thorough pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight inspections of UAV systems, payloads, and support equipment.Executes approved flight plans while maintaining situational awareness around energized facilities, terrain, personnel, and the public.Captures high-quality photo and video data in accordance with customer inspection standards and company procedures.Maintains accurate flight logs, inspection records, and equipment condition reports.Coordinates with ground crews, inspectors, and project staff to support daily production goals.Complies with FAA Part 107 regulations, site-specific airspace authorizations, and company safety programs.Participates in tailboard meetings, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and safety briefings.Assists with basic data organization, transfer, and upload per project requirements.Identifies operational or safety concerns and escalates issues as appropriate.Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.Required Skills and AbilitiesStrong attention to detail and commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.Ability to follow established procedures, flight plans, and inspection protocols.Working knowledge of FAA Part 107 requirements and airspace restrictions.Basic understanding of overhead transmission and distribution components preferred.Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, crew members, and project personnel.Ability to work independently with direction and as part of a team.Proficiency with mobile devices, inspection software, and basic data management tools.Willingness and ability to travel and work rotating schedules as required.Ability to hike uneven terrain and lift and transport UAV equipment and batteriesExperience / EducationMinimum 1-3 years of UAV flight experience preferredExperience supporting utility, infrastructure, or linear asset inspections preferred.High school diploma or G.E.D. required.Licenses / CertificationsFAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate (required)Valid driver's license with the ability to maintain insurability under the company's insurance carrier.
