Department of Student ServicesPOSITION DESCRIPTIONThis position prioritizes external candidates.POSITION TITLE: Intervention Specialist K-12 (Classroom Teacher)REPORTS TO: Building PrincipalEducation: Valid Ohio Special Education Teaching Certificate/License to teach children with disabilitiesExperience: Previous experience working in public educational setting desired.Intervention Specialist provides an educational program for students as defined in the student's Individualized Education Program (I.E.P.)Major Duties and Responsibilities:1) Participate as a collaborative team member in intervention planning, multifactored evaluations, and reevaluations for students within the required timelines.2) Coordinate the development and continuous monitoring of Individual Educational Plans for students with disabilities to ensure appropriate services and supplemental aides and supports are provided in the least restrictive environment within required timelines consistent with The Ohio Operating Standards for the Education of Children with Disabilities.3) Implement educational interventions and specially designed instruction adapting, as appropriate, the content, methodology, or delivery of instruction to address the unique need of the student.4) Design and implement meaningful parent involvement activities that include parents as equal partners.5) Other duties as assigned Principal/Manager or his/her designee.Essential Functions/ Skills and Knowledge:SkillsWill work cooperatively with regular classroom teachers, interpreting the abilities and disabilities of these students, assisting in classroom intervention strategies, modifying general education curricula as necessary, and assisting the student with regular class assignments.Will communicate regularly with parents and professional staff regarding the educational, social, and personal needs of students.Will participate in professional growth activities through staff development, in-service, workshops, and higher education.Will use data to plan instruction and evaluate student progressWill have the ability to give directions to paraprofessionalsWill be skilled at collaborating with general education teachers and other school team membersWill have the ability to create schedules for inclusionWill have the ability to use and implement the Ohio Extended StandardsWill have knowledge of the Alternate Assessment for Students with Significant Cognitive Disabilities (AASCD) KnowledgeKnowledge and experience with research-based best practices in specialized instructionKnowledge of Ohio Learning StandardsKnowledge of Operating Standards for Ohio's Educational Agencies Serving Children with DisabilitiesKnowledge of Ohio Model Policies and ProceduresKnowledge of federal and state legislationStrong oral and written communication skills
