The Instrument Machinist constructs scientific instruments as needed by the faculty and the department.ResponsibilitiesWriting CNC Code - 15%The student will be asked to write code for both a CNC mil and lathe and to design software to make parts requested by the facultyWelding and Cutting - 25%Use MIG, TIG and Oxyacetylene welding to build parts for the facultyUse Plasma, band saw, hot saw and torch for cutting materials to be used in the machine shop.Promoting safety and Maintaining the shops - 55%Be alert for unsafe behavior, practices, set-ups, and situations. Correct them or bring them to the attention of the Machine Shop Coordinator.Assist students in remembering that food and beverages are not allowed in the shops at any time. If they want to keep their water bottle in their backpack, that is OK.
