In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for architecting, developing, and maintaining low-latency, high-throughput market data systems that serve as the backbone of Coinbase’s trading infrastructure. You will lead a lean, high-impact team focused on building scalable solutions for real-time market data generation, normalization, and distribution across our platform. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of institutional trading technology, working on a system from the ground up with ownership comparable to a startup environment, but with the resources and reach of Coinbase.Qualifications5+ years of experience in backend engineering, particularly with low-latency, high-performance systems.Hands-on experience designing and maintaining market data systems, including feed handlers, normalization, and distribution mechanisms.Proficiency in low-latency programming languages such as Java or C++.Experience with high-throughput messaging frameworks like Aeron, SBE, or similar technologies.Knowledge of market data protocols such as FIX, ITCH/OUCH, and multicast.Proven track record of delivering end-to-end features and operating production systems effectively.Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineers, product managers, and stakeholders.Experience with venue/exchange connectivity and market data infrastructure.Understanding of observability, incident response, and system reliability best practices.Familiarity with responsible AI utilization to enhance workflow efficiency and quality.ResponsibilitiesDesign, build, and operate components of the market data infrastructure, including feed handlers, normalization engines, and distribution systems.Develop low-latency, high-throughput systems to ensure real-time delivery of market data used by trading applications.Maintain and improve system reliability, performance, and scalability through observability and proactive incident management.Write clean, efficient, and well-tested code, raising the quality standards within a lean team environment.Collaborate with engineering, product, and other stakeholders to deliver new market data features and capabilities.Participate in on-call rotations, incident response, and troubleshooting to ensure system uptime and performance.Contribute to the continuous improvement of infrastructure, processes, and best practices in market data engineering.Stay updated with industry standards and incorporate innovative solutions to enhance system performance and security.BenefitsCompetitive salary with annual base range of $207,485—$244,100 USD, excluding equity and bonuses.Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance plans.401(k) retirement savings plan with company matching.Equity options providing ownership in the company’s success.Flexible remote work environment with quarterly in-person “surge” sessions.Generous paid time off and holidays.Learning and development opportunities to support your professional growth.Supportive and inclusive company culture promoting diversity and innovation.Equal OpportunityCoinbase is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
