Elementary and Secondary SchoolsChild Care ServicesOther Schools and InstructionJunior CollegesSatellite TelecommunicationsMusic Teacher - Head Band DirectorJob Title: Music Teacher - Head Band DirectorReports To: Building Principal and Director, Performing and Fine ArtsClassification: ProfessionalWage/Hour Status: ExemptDays: 188Salary: See Compensation Plan for New Hire Guide for TeachersContract: Probationary/TermDate Revised: 11/15/2023Primary Purpose: Responsible for devising classroom experiences conducive to the students' aesthetic fulfillment and the development of group and individual skills.Qualifications/SkillsBachelor's degree in related field.Valid Texas Teacher Certificate or Teaching Certificate from out of state appropriate for position.Certification must meet requirements for becoming and remaining qualified for this position in a manner required by Federal and/or State law.Special Knowledge/SkillsExcellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.Major Duties and ResponsibilitiesFollow District curriculum relative to classroom instruction and District guidelines involving co-curricular activities.Maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning through thoughtful and continuous planning supported by efficient organizational procedures.Plan public performance experiences, compatible with and supportive of classroom instructional objectives and in keeping with the District's standards for attainable excellence.Conduct any necessary after-school instruction to prepare individual students for participation in competitions, accompany students participating in these activities to the activity sites and other District approved music activities.Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies and administrative regulations.Cooperate with faculty and administration in supporting all school and District objectives through classroom as well as co-curricular activities.Student Growth And DevelopmentHelp students analyze and improve study methods and habits. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by campus principal.Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of school district.Classroom Management and OrganizationCreate classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social and emotional development of students. Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities. Assist in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials.CommunicationEstablish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals and teachers. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents and community members.Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.Keep Director of Performing Arts and Building Principal informed of all matters relating to the operation of the program.Professional Growth and DevelopmentPursue in-service or professional growth opportunities offering potential for expanding or improving music instruction.Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
