PostgreSQL Developer

OverviewWe are seeking a highly skilled PostgreSQL Developer with deep expertise in designing, optimizing, and operating PostgreSQL databases at scale. This role is focused on performance, reliability, data integrity, and advanced PostgreSQL features rather than generic database administration. The ideal candidate is someone who truly knows PostgreSQL inside and out and can architect, tune, and support mission-critical data systems.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, build, and maintain complex PostgreSQL database systems for high-availability and high-performance environmentsLead schema design, table partitioning strategies, indexing, and query optimizationDiagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks using EXPLAIN, ANALYZE, pg_stat views, and advanced profiling toolsImplement and manage replication, backups, point-in-time recovery (PITR), and disaster recovery strategiesDevelop and optimize stored procedures, functions, triggers, and extensions using PL/pgSQL (or other supported languages)Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance through roles, permissions, encryption, and auditing practicesCollaborate closely with backend engineers to design efficient data models and access patternsHandle database migrations, version upgrades, and zero/minimal-downtime deploymentsEstablish best practices for database monitoring, alerting, and capacity planningAct as a PostgreSQL subject-matter expert and provide guidance to engineering teamsRequired Skills & Experience5+ years of hands-on PostgreSQL experience in production environmentsDeep understanding of PostgreSQL internals (MVCC, WAL, vacuuming, locking, query planner)Strong experience with performance tuning, indexing strategies, and query optimizationExpertise in replication technologies (streaming replication, logical replication)Experience with backup and recovery tools (pg_dump, pg_basebackup, PITR)Proficiency in PL/pgSQL and writing advanced database logicStrong SQL skills including complex joins, CTEs, window functions, and performance-aware query designExperience operating PostgreSQL on Linux-based systemsFamiliarity with database monitoring and observability toolsStrong troubleshooting, analytical, and documentation skillsNice to HaveExperience with very large databases (hundreds of GBs to TB+ scale)PostgreSQL extensions (PostGIS, pg_partman, pg_stat_statements, timescaledb, etc.)Cloud-managed PostgreSQL (AWS RDS/Aurora, GCP Cloud SQL, Azure PostgreSQL)Experience with sharding, partitioning, and multi-tenant database architecturesKnowledge of HA solutions (Patroni, PgBouncer, Pgpool-II)Automation and Infrastructure-as-Code experience (Terraform, Ansible, CI/CD)What Success Looks LikeDatabases are fast, reliable, well-monitored, and resilientQuery performance issues are proactively identified and resolvedPostgreSQL upgrades and migrations are smooth and low-riskEngineering teams trust your guidance on data modeling and performance decisionsCompensation:Base salary starting at $80K$10K annual retention increase guaranteeGrowth potential up to $170K
