Job duties consist of related administrative duties. Successful performance contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of those operations. FLSA status is Non-Exempt.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe following duties are normal for this classification. Specific duties listed may not be required for all positions in this classification, but are determined by the normal requirements for this particular position.PERSONNEL SUPPORT DUTIES (45%)Ensures that all time and attendance records are entered properly and submitted for processing.Monitors leave time and leave requests.Prepares personnel action forms.Schedules physicals for department personnel.Assists Human Resources staff in administering workers' compensation claims.Assists in developing and updating job descriptions.Tracks employee performance appraisals for the Fire Department.Assists in orienting and training department personnel; participates in the discipline process of department personnel.Responds to employee questions regarding benefits and personnel policies; serving as the HR Liaison to the Fire Department.RECRUITMENT AND SELECTION DUTIES (25%)Assists in screening job applications; developing interview schedules; coordinating interview boards; scheduling and administering testing.Conducts departmental new hire orientation.Schedules facilities for examinations and interviews.Performs data entry for new hires and exits.PROMOTIONAL PROCESS SUPPORT DUTIES (20%)Participates in developing selection processes to include written exams, role-play exercises, and oral interviews.Attends tests development sessions.Coordinates the administration of promotional testing assessments.Prepares testing packets.Secures test sites and assist in administering tests.Disassembles testing materials upon completion.OTHER RELATED DUTIES (10%)Processes purchase order requests, receipts and reconciles accounts for the department as needed.Receives and distributes mail.Performs other duties as needed or assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSBachelor's degree in Human Resources or four (4) years of personnel/payroll responsibilities.Must have above average skill in the use of Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel and the ability to adapt to other software.Must be able to adapt to a changing environment and handle multiple priorities.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSThe following requirements are normal for this classification. Employees with less than 10 years of service receive a $10,000 policy and employees with 10 years of service or more receive a $20,000 policy.Retirement-Through the Retirement Systems of Alabama, this benefit requires mandatory enrollment for all regular employees as of the first day of employment. Employees are classified as Tier I or Tier I (A) with the Retirement Systems of Alabama. The employee pays a percentage of all gross income specified by RSA. The City provides a matching amount determined by RSA.A Tier I employee is an employee who was a member of the Retirement Systems of Alabama prior to January 1, 2013.
