Pepin Academies Teacher of Exceptional StudentsNote: This job description covers all classroom teachersMajor FunctionThe primary function of the teacher is to provide specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities, ensuring they receive an equitable education tailored to their individual needs. This role involves collaborating with the ESE Team to participate in the development and implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs), collaborating with support staff, and fostering a classroom environment that promotes academic, social, and emotional growth.Duties And ResponsibilitiesPlans lessons consistent with state and Pepin Academies curriculum framework(s)Ensures compliance with school, state, and federal regulations regarding the education of students with disabilitiesSupports Pepin Academies’ mission and visionUnderstands and demonstrates knowledge of Exceptional Student EducationFollows policies established in the Pepin Academies Employee HandbookObserves confidentiality relating to students, teachers, and schoolPerforms with minimum supervisionCommunicates effectively with students and parents to increase student achievementResponds to and acts appropriately upon constructive criticismEngages in self-assessment and participates in professional development activities to stay current in best practices for special educationUses instructional time efficiently and effectively to maximize student learning and engagementPresents subject matter effectively, using technology where appropriate and available, while using appropriate skills and strategies within the Teacher Evaluation Framework to promote the creative/critical thinking capabilities of studentsUses supportive data to arrive at a grade or indication of student progress within an appropriate timeframe and uses technology to manage systems of instruction, record keeping, and reporting systems where appropriate and availableEstablishes and maintains standards for acceptance for acceptable student behavior while maintaining a structured and positive classroom environment conducive to learningCollects student performance data for progress monitoring and reports student progress towards IEP goalsParticipates in IEP and eligibility meetings with parents and appropriate school and agency personnelDemonstrates knowledge of Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and implements all requirementsDemonstrates knowledge of Access Points for Sunshine State Standards and Florida Alternate AssessmentEnsure timely submission of planning notes and lesson plans in accordance with school deadlines and guidelinesSupervise teacher assistant in providing instruction for students, as requiredProvides transition planning for students with disabilities, as requiredMaintain a valid and current Florida teaching certificate, adhering to all renewal and professional development requirements as mandated by the Florida Department of EducationOther responsibilities as directed by administrationSchool Expectations: All employees are expected to demonstrate regular and predictable attendance; to support the Pepin Academies’ vision, mission, goals, and Strategic Plan; to engage in civility, respect, and professionalism; and to maintain the professional knowledge and skills necessary to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of their positions.Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree from a fully accredited college or university.Possession of, or eligibility for, a Florida Educators certificate required by the Florida Department of Education. This includes both certification in the appropriate exceptional student area(s) and any content certification as required by the State of Florida.
