This is a 100% travel position that will work on various project sites typically located across the Eastern half of the United States.Position DescriptionThe Welder Helper position plays a critical role in ensuring overall project success by performing a variety of manual labor tasks and directly supporting the work of welders on the job site. The ideal candidate works safe, takes initiative, is organized and detail oriented, and is willing to assist with all assigned project tasks.Essential ResponsibilitiesAssist welders to set up rigs and move them between work areas.Ensure welders have required materials and tools available, such as rods and grinding discs.Maintain stock levels of materials and supplies.Load and unload trucks.Follow welders' instructions to adjust welding machine temperatures.Employ buffers and grinders to clean welds.Torque and bolt up piping.Set piping support structures in place.Hand-dig excavations.Operate equipment and other machinery as assigned.Assist with painting.Maintain knowledge of various types of metal.Proactively identify safety risks and hazards on the job site.Maintain a safe and clean job site by handling materials and storing them properly, picking up and removing all tools and equipment when not in use, and securing the job site on a daily basis.Follow project instructions from superintendent and/or foreman.Ensure regulated and proper headgear, gloves, safety glasses, and clothing are worn.Complete all assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner.Position RequirementsHigh school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) preferred.At least one year of experience in a similar role.Experience with 100% travel away from home preferred.Strong attention to detail.Basic skills to read drawings and prints.Ability to take precise measurements and operate levels to obtain elevations.Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills with all levels of management.Able to work independently or as an active member of a team.Possess a valid state or federal ID.Ability to pass a background check and obtain a TWIC card.Equal Opportunity EmployerFHG, Inc. provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability or genetics.
