The Assistant Teacher will educate, monitor, train and guide minor children in a caring, creative and developmentally appropriate classroom environment while supporting the family and the needs of all children in the assigned classroom.Shift(s): Full Time Temporary8:30 am - 5:30 pm Monday-FridayRequirementsMAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES/ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:Assist the Lead Teacher in preparing and following a written regular lesson plan and ensure the lesson plan relates to the established curriculum and summer activitiesLead and educate children in a classroom setting to foster development, creativity and joy of learningBuild and maintain an ongoing open and collaborative relationship with children and familiesAssess child development and growth and lead appropriate conversations with families to assist with development and growthComplete required reports to document and communicate children’s activitiesComplete required VDSS and WCR documentation (i.e. accident reports, fire drill reports, medication authorization, etc.) Maintain safe and secure environment for the children at all timesBe a leader on all field trips and outingsAdditional duties as assignedEquipmentComputer, including Microsoft OfficePhotocopierTelephoneAudio Visual EquipmentWashing machine and dryerPhysical RequirementsAbility to stand, sit, sit on floor, lift, bend, stoop, reach, push and pullAbility to lift 25 pounds without assistance, 26+ with manual or mechanical assistanceAbility to perform CPR and first aid for childrenRequired Knowledge, Skills And AbilityKnowledge of VDSS Regulations for Licensed Child Care CentersAbility to read, write and understand the English languageKnowledge of early childhood development Ability to work effectively with small childrenAbility to make decisions and choice with limited supervisionDesired Knowledge, Skills And Ability Knowledge of intergenerational programmingCertified in CPR and First Aid for infants and childrenRequired Education And ExperienceHigh School Diploma or equivalencyChild Development Associate (CDA) credential or Associate’s Degree in early childhood education or approved related field Minimum of one year experience in a childcare or teaching environmentDesired Education And ExperienceBachelor’s Degree in early childhood education or related field Previous experience in an inclusion programRequired Behavioral CompetenciesExcellent customer service skillsPatience and tolerance for young children and families of diverse backgroundsMust be able to interact with children and their parents with understanding and compassionAbility to make sound decisions based on objective analysis of a situationDemonstrate commitment by meeting expectations as outlined in the child Development Attendance and Scheduling PolicySummaryWestminster Canterbury Richmond opened in 1975 and is a premier continuing care retirement community known for its tradition of service excellence.
