DescriptionJob DescriptionPeaceHealth is seeking a Technical Lab Assistant for a Per Diem/Relief, 0.00 FTE, Variable position. The salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $22.21 – $33.31. The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to education, training, work experience, terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, seniority, etc.Job SummaryPerforms laboratory testing and support services across the major areas of the laboratory. Performs moderate to high complexity laboratory procedures, as defined by CLIA, according to standard operating procedures. This testing requires the limited exercise of independent judgment and interpretation and is performed under the supervision of a medical technologist or department supervisor.Essential FunctionsPerform phlebotomy and specimen processing as necessary.Follows established procedures for collecting and processing biological specimens for analysis.Performs moderate complexity or waived tests, as assigned. Recognizes abnormal results and follows up as defined in standard operating procedures.Operates instruments as assigned. Recognizes equipment malfunctions and notifies appropriate technical personnel.Performs routine quality control and maintains accurate records. Recognizes out-of-control results and notifies technical personnel.Recognizes factors that affect measurements and results and takes appropriate action according to predetermined protocols.Assists in the training of new caregivers and students.Performs other duties as assigned.QualificationsEducationHigh School Diploma Required: or equivalent andAssociate degree Preferred orBachelor of Science PreferredExperience Preferred: Clinical Laboratory experience SkillsWorking knowledge of specimen collection, preparation, and test requirements and factors affecting test interpretation in responding to inquiries (Required)Good written and verbal communication skills (Required)Mathematical ability to calculate fractions, percentages, ratios, proportion measurements and apply practical algebra (Required)General understanding of laboratory equipment to calibrate and do minor repairs (Required) Working ConditionsLiftingAbility to move around area with occasional sitting.Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment, frequently.Lift/Carry: Frequently up to 5 lbs.Push/Pull: Frequently up to 10 lbs. force.Reaching frequently.Squat/ kneel occasionally.Environmental ConditionsExposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.Mental/VisualAbility to communicate and exchange accurate information.The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.PeaceHealth is committed to the overall wellbeing of our caregivers.
