PRIMARY PURPOSE:Plan, coordinate, and supervise all components of the athletic training program forstudent athletes primarily at the junior high level with assistance at the high school whenneeded. Work under the advice and consent of Head Athletic Trainer and team physicianto carry out activities in the following areas: prevention, evaluation, emergencytreatment, physical reconditioning, and rehabilitation of injuries.QUALIFICATIONS:Education/CertificationBachelor's degree - CAATE Accredited Program PreferredValid license from Texas Advisory Board of Athletic TrainersBOC Certified - PreferredCPR, First Aid, and AED certificationSpecial Knowledge/SkillsAbility to provide injury prevention and rehabilitation servicesAbility to provide emergency careKnowledge of therapeutic modalities and ability to treat student athletesAbility to instruct and supervise student athletes and assistantsExcellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skillsExperience1+ years preferred (although new graduates are encouraged to apply)MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Athletic TrainerIllness/Injury Prevention1. Plan and implement a comprehensive athletic injury and illness prevention programfor student athletes.2. Attend practice sessions and athletic contests as assigned by athletic director.3. Establish and maintain effective communication with students, parents, medical andparamedical personnel, coaches, and other staff.4. Provide physical conditioning training to student athletes.5. Fit injured athletes with specialized equipment and oversee its use.6. Prepare athletes for games and practices by conducting evaluations and using tape,wraps, splints, braces, and other protective devices as needed.7. Identify acute injuries and provide first-aid triage.8. Detect and resolve environmental risks to athletes.Page 2 of 39. Evaluate injured athletics returning from middle school of high school out of towngames.10. Maintain good standing with Texas Dept. Health and NATA.Rehabilitation/Reconditioning12. Plan and put in place a comprehensive rehabilitation and reconditioning programfor injuries and illnesses sustained by student athletes.13. Determine therapeutic modalities and instruct athletes on proper use of exerciseequipment.14. Apply therapeutic modalities and instruct athletes on proper use of exerciseequipment.15. Evaluate and record rehabilitation progress of athletes. Develop criteria forprogression and return to competition.16. Follow professional, ethical, and legal parameters regarding use of drugs andtherapeutic agents for treatment and rehabilitation of injured athletes.Administration17. Coordinate scheduling of athletic physical examinations and screening.18. Select, train, and supervise student assistants.19. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents includingmedical, accident, and treatment records as required.20. Maintain an inventory of training supplies and equipment. Requisition additionalsupplies as needed.Other21. Attendance is an essential job function.22. Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: TECH APPS TEACHER23. Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district'scurriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.24. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.25. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency,board policies, and administrative regulations.26. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, andequipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.27. Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructionalactivities.28. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed forspecial education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans(IEP).29. Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, andmethods according to district requirements.30. Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.31. Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.32. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informaltesting.Page 3 of 333.
