Director of Music - St. John Catholic Church - Indianapolis, INSt. John the Evangelist Catholic Church – Downtown Indianapolis, IndianaDirector of Music – Full TimePosition Mission: The Mission of this position is to lead worship and devotion music for the parish and various other needs of visitors and friends of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church located in downtown Indianapolis, IN. St. John's is the oldest Catholic Church in the city with roots going back to 1837. It is a growing parish with over 2600 parishioners and 50% of its congregation comprised of young adults between the ages of 18-35. St. John the Evangelist was recently the host parish for the National Eucharistic Congress. The young adult movement in the heart of the city, combined with an outstanding traditional parishioner base and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit from the National Eucharistic Congress makes St. Johns a wonderful place to minister and serve. Check out the active parish life at www.stjohnsindy.org .Major Responsibilities: The Director of Music for St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church will lead all liturgical and devotional music for the parish and various special events of the very lively and highly visited downtown parish, while working collaboratively with the entire Ministry Team for the Greater Mission of the Church.Specific responsibilities include:Preparing, accompanying (organ and piano) and leading music for all Solemnity Masses including Weekend Masses, Holy Days and various special Masses hosted throughout the year.Preparing, accompanying (organ and piano) and leading music for special devotional prayer including Adoration two times per week, Stations of the Cross, Processions, and special devotional worship.Recruiting, growing, teaching and leading volunteer Traditional Choir, Young Adult Choir and Children's Choir.Recruiting, growing, teaching and leading volunteer cantors for all Masses, special liturgies and devotions.Preparing and leading music for all parishioner weddings and funerals.Leading music for the annual Christkindl Village Christmas Festival including Sacred Music Festivals in the Church, live stage throughout the festival and caroling groups within the festival.Verify the maintenance and upkeep of the 50-stop Goulding & Wood Pipe Organ and Baldwin PianoProgram and maintain the control unit for tower bells and carillonAttending Ministry Team meetings and retreats as requested by the PastorKnowledge and maintenance of the sound system in the church, including training and coordinating sounds system techs for Sunday Masses, Daily Masses and Weddings.Serving alongside the Ministry Team in various Spirit led ways to serve the Mission of the Church within and beyond music ministry including Hospitality and Welcome of New ParishionersWorking collaboratively with the Pastor to prepare excellent worship and devotional music for requested events and serve the greater Mission of the Church while ministering collaboratively with the entire Ministry Team.Qualifications: St. John the Evangelist is seeking a highly motivated and faith filled, practicing member of the Roman Catholic Church to serve as Director of Music.
