This role is based in Hazelwood, Missouri, and involves developing visual database content for next-generation flight simulators used in military pilot training. The successful candidate will play a vital role in designing, developing, and integrating visual and sensor content optimized for real-time rendering on training devices. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge simulation technology, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to create realistic terrain models, environmental assets, and visual effects that enhance training effectiveness.QualificationsThe ideal candidate will possess a combination of educational background and practical experience relevant to the role. A minimum of 2 years of experience working with GIS tools, geospatial concepts, visual database creation, and 3D modeling software is required. Experience with photo-editing and texturing tools is also essential. A higher education degree such as an associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred, along with 3+ years of relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of education and professional background. Familiarity with industry-standard software packages like QGIS, Blue Marble Global Mapper, Presagis/CAE Creator, Adobe Photoshop, and 3D modeling tools such as Autodesk Maya, 3D Max, or Blender is highly desirable. Knowledge of flight simulation terminology, FAA airfield standards, and industry data sources like NGA datasets will be advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.ResponsibilitiesUtilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) tools to manipulate and modify geospatial data to meet project standards, including creating accurate airfield models.Generate terrain meshes from satellite imagery and elevation data to create realistic landscape representations.Model and texture 3D environments and assets such as terrain, props, building exteriors, and vehicles to enhance visual realism.Collaborate closely with engineering and development teams to establish technical requirements and ensure alignment with project goals.Analyze and troubleshoot issues related to 3D models and visual databases, addressing problems with normals, textures, UV maps, edge flow, and rendering artifacts.Support the development and documentation of processes, tools, and procedures to improve workflow efficiency and consistency.Work under general supervision, demonstrating initiative and problem-solving skills to meet project deadlines and quality standards.BenefitsAt Boeing, we are committed to providing a comprehensive Total Rewards package designed to attract, retain, and develop top talent.
