Assistant Maintenance SupervisorLocation: Just outside of Chicago, ILTitle: Assistant Maintenance SupervisorDepartment: MaintenanceReports To: Maintenance SupervisorOverall RoleServes as the primary backup to the Maintenance Supervisor and supports the reliable operation of injection molding machines and auxiliary equipment through hands-on troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and leadership support. This role is intended for a maintenance professional seeking growth into leadership while remaining technically hands-on.Essential ResponsibilitiesAct as backup to the Maintenance Supervisor during absences and assist with day-to-day leadership of the maintenance teamSupport and help coordinate daily maintenance activities to minimize downtime and support productionTroubleshoot and diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues on injection molding machines and auxiliary equipmentLead and support root cause analysis efforts to prevent repeat failuresAssist with preventive maintenance programs to improve equipment reliability and uptimeProvide hands-on maintenance support as needed, including machine and auxiliary equipment repairsSupport training, development, and mentoring of maintenance techniciansHelp reinforce accountability, work standards, and a problem-solving mindset within the maintenance teamAssist with reviewing time sheets, work orders, and maintenance prioritiesWork with tool crib personnel to maintain appropriate inventory of parts, tools, and suppliesCommunicate effectively with production, tooling, and management to support plant prioritiesPromote and enforce safe work practices and maintain a clean, organized maintenance environmentPerform additional related duties as assignedEquipment & Systems SupportedInjection molding machinesChillers, thermolators, resin dryers, material handling and loader systemsGrinders, tower fans, and related auxiliary equipmentPhysical RequirementsManufacturing environment with moderate noise and frequent movement on the production floorAbility to stand and/or walk for the duration of the shiftAbility to lift up to 55 lbsAbility to bend, stoop, twist, kneel, crouch, push, and pull as requiredAbility to climb, work atop molding machines, ladders, and aerial lift equipmentAbility to work occasionally in confined or tight spacesMust wear required PPE, including fire-retardant apparelQualificationsExtensive experience repairing injection molding machines and auxiliary equipmentStrong working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systemsProven troubleshooting skills and ability to perform root cause analysisAbility to read and interpret prints, diagrams, and technical documentationWelding skills required; machining skills a plusPrior lead, senior technician, or informal leadership experience preferredStrong interest in advancing into a formal leadership roleAbility to balance hands-on technical work with leadership and administrative responsibilities
