Sports Instructors - Part-Time
Do you have a passion for sports and enjoy working with youth?Our Sports Department is seeking reliable, high-energy, and versatile instructors to lead and inspire athletes across a wide developmental spectrum. Responsibilities range from planning class activities (with the leadership and collaboration of the program director) that introduce basic motor skills to toddlers all the way up to refining advanced skill techniques for teenagers.As a Sports Instructor, you'll play a vital role in advancing our mission of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. You will help children and teens of all ages discover the joy of sports in a fun, safe, and inclusive environment.Successful Candidates will possess the following:Sport-Specific Expertise -Track & Field: Strong understanding of sprinting mechanics & running styles, relay exchanges, and breathing techniques. We offer both Cross Country in the Fall and Short/Long Distance in the Spring.Basketball: Ability to coach fundamentals (dribbling, shooting form, defense) and explain game strategy, for all levels of skill.Recreational Sports: Proficiency in organizing skill base classes like soccer, flag football, floor hockey and agility related fitness activities.* Adaptive Teaching Style - Proven ability to pivot coaching methods based on age. (e.g., using "storytelling" for 3-year-olds vs. "drills and skills" for 15-year-olds).* Safety & Management - Ability to maintain a safe, controlled environment for groups of 8-20 children.Qualifications:Must be at least 21 years of ageMust have a valid drivers license and a clean driving recordMust be reliable - punctuality is a non-negotiableExperience working with youth (camps, sports, coaching, etc); willingness to work with children and teens of varying ages and abilitiesExperience working with diverse populations preferred, with a commitment to inclusion and belongingStrong communication skills: must be able to command attendtion of participants while remianing approachable; must be able to communicate effectively with parents/guardians and other YMCA members and staffHours: Must be available to work days, evenings and weekends. Schedules vary by program.Track runs 4-5 days per week for approx. 9 weeks with some meets requiring instructors to take a bus to other area schools.
