Lab Coordinator - Manufacturing and Advanced Technology
Workweek
40 Hours | Typical schedule is 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday. Schedule may fluctuate to meet division needs: day, evening, and possible weekend hours.
Position Summary
The Lab Coordinator facilitates the use of the Manufacturing and Advanced Technology classrooms and labs by maintaining tools, equipment, and vehicles. This individual will identify vendors and obtain quotes for the purchase of tools, equipment, and supply inventories following College purchasing policies.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
Oversee and perform the general maintenance and instructional setup of all Manufacturing and Advanced Technology classrooms and labs (i.e. - Automotive Technology, Precision Machining, Network Security, Manufacturing, Welding and Fabrication, Construction Management, Architectural Technology, Metrology, Engineering, HVAC, and Idea Works labs)
Catalog and establish maintenance schedules in college software. Maintain all lab equipment, such as diagnostic equipment, lifts, tire equipment, etc., as needed
Maintain list of tools and equipment in MCC software to track assets, maintenance schedules, operating instructions, and other information required to plan and track maintenance and repairs
Build training aids to support classroom and lab instruction
Identify and order supplies, materials, equipment, and services for classrooms and labs
Maintain inventory of lab supplies and equipment
Organize supplies for storage and/or distribution
Maintain an inventory and check-out system for all equipment and audio-visual materials, if appropriate
Conduct basic diagnostic, maintenance, and repair on all tools and equipment, as skills allow
Develop and maintain safety and procedural manuals and material safety data sheets for all classroom and lab spaces
Obtain quotes following MCC purchasing policies and submit to Administrative Assistants for processing. Obtain I-9 forms from new vendors. Receive orders and verify order accuracy, distribute to appropriate faculty, and notify Administrative Assistants that order is complete or if any items are missing.
Develop an understanding of the instruction completed in labs to adequately prepare labs for instructional purposes prior to semester or course start dates. Coordinate maintenance and repairs with faculty.
Assist faculty and facilitators with lab instruction setup and special events
In partnership with faculty, supervise open labs for students for additional practice to reinforce instruction, as skills allow
Train and oversee student employees to assist in creating a safe and clean lab environment
Work collaboratively with others (e.g., colleagues, stakeholders, vendors) to accomplish functions and responsibilities
Assume additional duties as assigned by immediate supervisor
Required Qualifications
Associate degree from a regionally accredited institution in a CTE program or a closely related field or equivalent
OSHA certified forklift training and operation within 60 days of start date
One year of work experience in a lab environment
Skills and Specifications
Basic skills in word processing, spreadsheets and other computer functions, to keep the lab operating efficiently
Ability to learn technological applications such as equipment and maintenance catalog software, operation and testing of equipment, computer, and software used in CTE classrooms and labs
Ability to manage and organize multiple tasks and to prioritize
Ability to work with multiple faculty and staff members simultaneously
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with persons contacted in the course of work
Willingness to continually train for technological equipment updates
Ability to troubleshoot routine equipment problems
Must be a self-starter and able to work independently in the labs and classrooms
Ability to safely lift 50 pounds unassisted
Must have a valid Illinois driver's license
