Special Education ParaprofessionalUnder the direct supervision of the Principal and certified staff member, the Special Education Paraprofessional assists professional staff in supporting students with disabilities in the classroom to meet instructional goals and objectives. The role reinforces learning, promotes student independence, supports IEP implementation, and contributes to a safe and productive environment in accordance with Board policy.Assists and guides students to reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction, and other academic skills. Works individually and in small groups with students to reinforce basic learning and implement assigned instructional programs. Assists certified staff in administering, monitoring, and correcting classroom exercises, tests, and assessments. Prepares instructional materials and supports reinforcement strategies based on individual student needs. Assists with record-keeping and documentation of student learning, behavior, and performance. Supports classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions, ensure safety, and maintain student engagement. Assists students in non-instructional areas such as lunch supervision, hallway monitoring, recess/playground duty, bus duty, and study hall. Accompanies students on field trips to assist with supervision and safety. Constructs, copies, distributes, and uses educational materials as needed. Assists teachers with parent contact when requested to support parent involvement in student learning. Assists students with special needs in all aspects of classroom instruction to support inclusion and the achievement of IEP goals. Assists students with physical or mental disabilities in activities of daily living (e.g., feeding, toileting, hygiene, mobility, communication) to maximize participation in school. Follows all safety rules, procedures, and regulations governing proper assistance and intervention for all students, including students with disabilities or other special needs.Additional duties include assisting guidance staff, pupil services personnel, or school administration as needed. Performs any other related duties as assigned.Equipment uses standard office and educational equipment, including computers, printers, copiers, assistive technology devices, and communication tools. Travel between schools or between schools and district offices may be required for certain assignments.Knowledge, skills, and abilities include the ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form, perform basic arithmetic operations, understand and use computers and software applications, work effectively with a diverse group of students, staff, and families, maintain confidentiality, build compassionate and supportive relationships with students, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships, provide written or oral reports to supervisors as required, and effective verbal and written communication skills.Physical and mental demands include working in standard school and office building environments, working outdoors during recess or other supervised student activities, lifting up to 50 pounds, supporting students with mobility needs, bending, kneeling, standing for extended periods, and quickly responding to emergencies. Must be able to handle the physical and emotional demands of working with students who may exhibit challenging behaviors.Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, successful completion of college-level coursework or passing score on a state-approved Paraprofessional Examination, in compliance with ESSA and SCDE requirements.Performance will be evaluated in accordance with district policy by the Principal or designee. Terms of employment are a 180-day classified contract or as established by the district. Salary according to the district's classified salary schedule. Conditions of employment are governed by Board policy, state law, and district procedures.
