Sr. Resource Specialist - Energy Risk Management

Thank you!We are seeking a Sr. Resource Specialist – Energy Risk Management to support a busy, team-oriented environment focused on identifying, measuring, and mitigating financial and operational risks within a wholesale energy portfolio.This role will be responsible for managing market volatility within the organization’s risk framework and supporting risk oversight across power, natural gas, renewables, and related commodity markets. The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in energy risk management, quantitative risk modeling, ETRM systems, market exposure analysis, and executive-level risk reporting.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and implement the full Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) workflow, including system selection, implementation, integrations, and process design.Maintain and update the organization’s Energy Risk Management Policy, including all applicable risk limits.Lead and support Risk Oversight Committee meetings, reporting, and governance processes.Establish processes for risk, net cost, exposure management, positions, valuation curves, mark-to-market reporting, settlements, pricing, reconciliation, and market data management.Calculate and report daily Value at Risk (VaR) and Mark-to-Market (MtM) valuations for physical and financial energy products.Perform Monte Carlo simulations, stress testing, and scenario analysis to evaluate portfolio performance under extreme market conditions such as weather events or infrastructure disruptions.Validate forward price curves and support pricing model accuracy.Develop and automate risk reporting dashboards for executive leadership and risk committees.Monitor trading activity to ensure compliance with risk policies and authorized trading limits.Analyze basis risk, shape risk, and portfolio exposure to ensure hedging strategies are effective.Collaborate with back-office teams to resolve trade discrepancies and maintain data integrity within the ETRM system.Leverage emerging technology, automation, and AI tools to improve efficiency, reporting quality, and speed.Exercise sound judgment, creative thinking, and accountability for outcomes.Perform other related duties as assigned.Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree in a related field and 8+ years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field and 6+ years of relevant experience.Strong preference for 10+ years of energy industry experience, specifically within energy risk management.Advanced degree preferred in a quantitative discipline such as:MathematicsQuantitative FinanceEconomicsStatisticsData ScienceEngineering or a related fieldExperience with wholesale energy markets, including power, natural gas, and renewable energy products.Strong understanding of financial and operational risk management within energy portfolios.Experience with ETRM systems, risk reporting, valuation curves, trade settlements, and market data processes.Familiarity with public policy, government regulations, budgeting practices, long-term planning, project management, contract administration, and relevant federal, state, and local laws.Required SkillsEnergy risk managementETRM workflow development and implementationVaR and MtM reportingMonte Carlo simulation and stress testingForward price curve validationPower, natural gas, and renewable energy marketsRisk policy, governance, and compliance monitoringBasis risk and shape risk analysisExecutive risk dashboards and automated reportingTrade reconciliation and data integrityAdditional Skills and AbilitiesStrong analytical and quantitative problem-solving skillsAbility to manage complex projects and competing prioritiesStrong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to prepare and deliver clear, organized presentations to technical and non-technical audiencesStrong attention to detail and organizational skillsAbility to work independently with minimal supervisionCollaborative, flexible, and team-oriented work styleAbility to lead, mentor, and coordinate work across departmentsSound judgment, accountability, and ability to perform under pressureStrong customer service mindset and fiscal responsibilityPreferred Candidate ProfileThe ideal candidate is a senior-level energy risk professional with deep experience in wholesale energy markets, ETRM systems, quantitative modeling, risk governance, and executive reporting.
