Student Financial Services Counselor (Full-time, Onsite)
Wilson College is seeking a dynamic and service-oriented professional to join our community as a Student Financial Services Counselor. As a key member of a collaborative and mission-driven team, the Counselor serves as a trusted guide for students and families-providing clear, compassionate support as they navigate student billing, payments, and related financial processes. Often the first point of contact, this role plays an essential part in shaping a positive and welcoming experience for our campus community. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Student Financial Services, the Counselor partners closely with colleagues across Financial Aid, the Business Office, the Registrar's Office, and other campus departments. A strong commitment to service, care, and collaboration is central to this role, as the work directly supports student success and contributes meaningfully to the overall student experience at Wilson College. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Receive, monitor, and process student account payments with accuracy and care. Provide personalized counseling to students and families regarding financing options and financial aid programs. Review and process student refund checks. Assist students and families with FAFSA questions, loan counseling, and general financial services information. Monitor and respond promptly to messages sent to the office's general email account. Support students with additional business services, including referrals to campus offices, commuter meal plan requests, and Phoenix ID card issuance. Provide front-office support by answering phones, scheduling appointments, faxing, and maintaining records. Participation in student recruitment, open house, and orientation events, as needed. Complete other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Student Financial Services. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; basic Excel knowledge is helpful. Comfort working with financial information, including accuracy in handling transactions and account details. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling sensitive information. Experience with or ability to learn student information systems or financial platforms. Prior experience in higher education, financial services, financial aid, or a customer service-focused role is preferred. POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK: Full-time, exempt position with standard office hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Flexibility is required, including occasional evening and weekend hours during peak periods (such as billing cycles, semester start, and key student service events) to effectively support students and families. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: An associate degree is required; a bachelor's degree in business, accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred. One to three years of experience in a customer service, financial services, or higher education setting is preferred. Experience working with financial aid, student accounts, or billing processes in a post-secondary setting is highly desirable. Familiarity with student information systems, financial platforms, or the ability to quickly learn new systems is preferred. Basic understanding of financial aid regulations or compliance standards (e.g., FERPA) is a plus. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience
