Data Center Technician - Ashburn, VA

OverviewJob Description:The Data Center Technician is responsible for providing hands-on technical support within a CoLo data center environment. This role includes hardware installation, basic networking support, ticket management, and on-site assistance for internal teams and external vendors. Candidates should be comfortable working in server rooms, performing physical tasks, and supporting a wide range of infrastructure technologies.Primary ResponsibilitiesProvide field support (5+ years preferred), including break/fix, hardware installation, and general hands-on IT assistance.Manage and update SNOW (ServiceNow) tickets and asset records.Perform networking troubleshooting, including:Crash carts and console connectionsILO/remote access tools (e.g., iLO, Putty)Wired and wireless network connectivitySwitch, router, core/aggregation, ISP hardware, and cabling issuesServe as on-site “Hands and Eyes” support for remote network engineers.Escort third-party hardware vendors and ensure adherence to site policies.Perform rack-and-stack of servers, switches, and additional data center hardware.Cable management, including routing under raised floors and through endcaps.Conduct remote and on-site support for software/hardware installations.Safely lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.Required & Preferred QualificationsHigh school diploma or GEDUnderstanding of basic networking conceptsAbility to work in data center or telecom closet environmentsAbility to lift 50 lbs. and perform physical tasks in a server room settingPreferred5+ years of field support or data center experienceVendor certifications (Lenovo, HP, IBM, etc.)CompTIA certifications (A+, Network+, Security+)Apple device training or certificationsWork Environment & ScheduleCoLo data center environment; may include cold/hot aisle conditionsStandard shift: Monday–Friday, 8 AM–5 PMOn-call availability required for outage windows and critical support needsOvertime or weekend work may be required for high-priority incidentsAt DXC Technology, we believe strong connections and community are key to our success.
