Karcher Middle School. Re-evaluate special education students through triennial IEP evaluations as required by law.Collaborate with other professionals, such as speech therapists, school psychologists, physical therapists, and occupational therapists, to meet the needs of all studentsCounsel with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis.Assist the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct.Develops rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for educational assistants and, cooperatively with principal(s), evaluate their job performance.Perform other related duties as delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program.Attend staff meetings and trainings and serve on staff committees, as requiredQualificationsBachelor's degree from an accredited institutionValid Cross Categorical K-12 Special Education License; approved by the Wisconsin Department of Public InstructionKnowledge of principles, practices and methodology of effective teaching of students with disabilities and behavioral challengesKnowledge of principles, practices and methodology of effective teaching of students diagnosed with autism.Knowledge of procedural requirements required by Federal and State law with regard to the education of students with disabilitiesExperience working with youth in an educational settingKnowledge of relevant technology to assist in individualized instructionAdditional RequirementsAbility to work productively in a team and as a self-starting individualAbility to provide leadershipAbility to effectively analyze needs and problems objectivelyAbility to deliver and articulate oral presentations and written reportsAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, students, parents, administration and the general publicAbility to work on a regular and punctual basisAbility to regularly stand, sit, walkOccasionally lift, move and support up to 50 pounds and lift up to an adult size body weight with two to three person lift (estimated 50 pounds of force)Ability to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person to provide accurate information and assistanceAbility to interact with students who have difficulty controlling physical behaviorAble to complete job duties in an environment where background noise and frequent interruptions are the normAble to maintain concentration and focus on tasks requiring timeliness and detailThe Burlington Area School District is an equal opportunity employer.
