Job Description:
The Mechanical Design Engineer applies proven abilities to design ETO (Engineered To Order) HVAC systems as defined by OEM customers, with direction from the OEM Engineers. Essentially, the Mechanical Design Engineer will design (via SolidWorks) and will produce layout drawings, detail drawings and assembly/reference drawings.
These systems will be taken from concept design or specific customer requirements and delivered using computer aided design technology. The role will also require using Infor LN ERP system.
Some Travel is expected to visit customers (10%).
In addition to annual initiatives, the key accountabilities of this position are:
Understanding the project scope and specification.
Developing 2D drawings, 3D assemblies, sub-assemblies and details, associated manufacturing drawings, bills of material, calculations, purchase specifications, production information, test information, as-built drawings, etc.
Apply design-for-assembly principles and cost considerations throughout the design process.
Developing Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (PIDs).
Adherence to project milestone review and approval process.
Adherence to project document control and filing procedures.
Maintenance of parts library, templates and drawing office standards.
Understanding of design for manufacture and the production of fabrication/shop drafting methods.
Attend design/planning meetings with client when required.
Preparation of accurate project design info to schedule, specification, and company standards.
Manage data in the Armstrong ERP system which requires BOM and routing updates, modifications, and item creation.
Issue drawing packages for pump packages to the assembly team and provide support during the build process.
Work closely with cross functional teams such as production, quality, planning etc.. to address design challenges and resolve issues.
Participation in process improvement activity.
Education And Skills:
University or College degree or diploma in mechanical engineering. AAS Mechanical Technology, BMET Mechanical Engineering, BS Mechanical Engineering.
Ability to break down complex problems in a simplified way, conduct root cause analysis and provide clear, well thought-out recommendations.
Familiarity with scripting (e.g. Python)/Solidworks APIs, Macros, and/or other design/development automation technics is a strong asset
Strong, team-oriented leadership skills with presence and a bias for action.
Self-directed with ability to work autonomously and collaboratively and a focus on results.
Strong presentation skills would be an asset.
Able to cope with multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines.
Able to work independently but is also an excellent collaborator.
Ability to communicate in an open and authentic manner in all situations.
Experience And Background:
2-3 years of experience in a Production or a Manufacturing environment.
Experience in HVAC system package design will be an asset.
Experience with SolidWorks CAD (a must), Excel, Word, and Power Point.

Pay: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour
