Robotics & Controls Engineer

Job Description:We are seeking an experienced Robotics & Controls Engineer to support the design, development, programming, integration, and optimization of advanced robotic automation systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong combination of mechanical engineering, robotics, PLC/controls, electrical, machine vision, and automation experience.The engineer will be responsible for developing custom automation cells and robotic systems from concept through implementation, including mechanical design, robot programming, PLC/HMI development, safety integration, vision systems, and production optimization.Key Responsibilities:Design custom automation cells, robotic workcells, fixtures, and End-of-Arm Tooling (EOAT) using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.Apply GD&T and ASME Y14.5 standards to mechanical designs and engineering drawings.Perform robot reachability, payload, center-of-gravity, joint torque, and moment-of-inertia analyses.Design, program, integrate, and optimize 6-axis industrial robots.Develop and troubleshoot PLC programs using digital and analog I/O.Develop intuitive HMI interfaces, machine sequences, alarms, and operator controls.Integrate robots, PLCs, sensors, actuators, safety devices, and other automation equipment.Develop and troubleshoot industrial electrical schematics and control-system prints.Integrate and program machine vision systems for inspection, part location, and robotic guidance.Perform machine and robotic-cell risk assessments and safety analyses.Implement safety systems including safety PLCs, light curtains, interlocks, E-stops, and fail-safe mechanisms.Ensure automation systems comply with applicable ANSI/RIA, ISO, and machine safety standards.Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, controls, robotics, and automation issues during commissioning and production.Optimize robot motion profiles, cycle times, throughput, and overall equipment performance.Apply Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, and Value Stream Mapping principles to improve manufacturing processes.Collaborate with manufacturing, mechanical, electrical, controls, and production teams throughout project execution.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.5–7 years of relevant engineering experience in robotics, automation, controls, or manufacturing.Successful completion of the FE (Fundamentals of Engineering) exam.Strong experience with SolidWorks 2020 and AutoCAD.Strong understanding of GD&T / ASME Y14.5.Experience with powertrain fixture design and custom automation.Advanced PLC and HMI programming experience.Strong understanding of industrial electrical systems and electrical schematics.Expert-level experience programming 6-axis industrial robots, such as FANUC, ABB, or KUKA.Experience with machine vision platforms such as Cognex or Keyence.Experience with robotic workcell integration and commissioning.Knowledge of ISO 13849, ANSI B11.19, ANSI/RIA R15.06, and ISO 10218.Strong analytical, troubleshooting, problem-solving, and system-integration skills.
