Lead Engineer, Computational Knowledge Graph

Overview As a CKG Lead Engineer at Avathon, you will design, develop, and scale Neon’s knowledge graph platform. You’ll own ontology design, schema modeling, and query optimization while integrating Python analytics and ML workloads. You’ll collaborate with data scientists, product managers, and customers to translate requirements into graph solutions. This mid-senior role combines technical leadership with hands-on development in a fast-growth environment. Your work will shape how industries leverage AI-driven decision intelligence at scale. ResponsibilitiesDesign and implement knowledge graph schemas, ontologies, and data models for complex domainsDevelop and optimize IQL queries for multi-hop graph traversals, joins, and aggregationsBuild data ingestion pipelines to populate and maintain knowledge graphs from diverse sourcesImplement computational functions and analytics on top of the knowledge graphIntegrate Neon with Python/NumPy for analytics and ML model integrationDesign and build APIs to expose knowledge graph capabilities to downstream applicationsOptimize query performance for large-scale datasets (1M+ records)Collaborate with product and data science teams to translate business requirements into graph solutionsMentor team members on IQL, graph modeling, and Neon best practicesContribute to platform roadmap and architectural decisions Key requirements5-8 years of software engineering experience, with at least 2 years with graph technologies or knowledge graphsStrong proficiency in PythonExperience with graph databases or knowledge graph platforms (Neo4j, Amazon Neptune, TigerGraph, or similar)Understanding of ontology design, schema modeling, and graph data structuresExperience with SQL and query optimizationFamiliarity with REST APIs and web services architectureExperience with cloud platforms (GCP preferred, AWS or Azure acceptable)Strong problem-solving skills and ability to translate complex business requirements into technical solutionsExcellent communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional teamsBS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related fieldStrong communicationProblem-solvingCollaborationPythonIQL (Intermediate Query Language)Graph databases (Neo4j, Neptune, TigerGraph)
