Computer Science Teacher - 2026/2027 School Year (Woodlawn Middle School)
The Woodlawn Campus of the University of Chicago Charter School (UCW) opened in September 2006. The middle school currently educates students in grades six through eight and assists students in the following:Developing the habits of mind, work, and heart to be successful in college and good citizens of their communityContributing to the community through student research, service, and leadershipImproving teaching and learning by serving as a site of professional development for teachers and school leadersUpholding the 4 core values of Scholarship, Leadership, Excellence and GritPosition Summary:This position will deliver ambitious computer science instruction that not only incorporates evidence-based analysis of practice in order to ensure that all students can achieve at high levels, but also provides a stimulating, challenging, and productive learning environment.Job Responsibilities:Deliver rigorous, standards-aligned computer science instruction that develops students' digital literacy, and critical thinking skills while ensuring equitable access to grade-level content for all learnersWork collaboratively with classroom teachers and the other staff members of the middle school's STEM Department to develop and maintain a cohesive curriculum sequence from grades 6-8Build a classroom culture grounded in the habits of mind, work, and heart by maintaining high expectations, fostering student ownership, and creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environmentUse student achievement data, formative assessments, and evidence-based instructional practices to plan differentiated lessons, monitor progress, and accelerate growth for diverse learnersEngage in continuous professional growth by collaborating with colleagues, participating in coaching cycles, and contributing to the campus as a professional development site for teachers and school leadersPassionate about the difference between mastery of devices and in-depth knowledge about computers and computingOther duties as assignedPosition Qualifications:Bachelor's degreeValid Illinois Professional Educator License with appropriate endorsementAt least 2 years of urban teaching experiencePrevious experience working with children from culturally diverse backgroundsExcellent written and oral communication skillsProven program planning and development experienceReflective and receptive to providing and receiving professional feedback and coachingCommitment to the success and achievement of all studentsProven commitment to curriculum and assessment planning and professional developmentAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, staff, students, parents, and community partnersAbility to communicate clearly with multiple stakeholdersPosition Competencies:* Collaborative, collegial, goal-oriented, mission-driven, accountable, responsible, self-managed, and self-motivatedSalary Range: $55,000.00 - $70,000.00The included pay rate or range represents the University of Chicago Charter School's good faith estimate of the possible compensation offer for this role at the time of posting.
