Teacher Assistant

Duration: 6 months to start�Job DescriptionWe are seeking a knowledgeable and experienced Teacher Assistant (TA) to join our educational team located within a youth correctional facility. As a TA, you will play an essential role in assisting teachers with daily tasks, general classroom supervision, day-to-day class functionality, and classroom management. In addition to helping, your primary responsibility will be to ensure the safety and wellbeing of students at all times.Duties And ResponsibilitiesThe teacher assistant reports directly to the Principal and works under the guidance and supervision of the principal or her designee. TAs perform many organizational and classroom management tasks to support both teachers and students. Helping teachers with lesson preparationDistributing and collecting learning materialsWorking with students on a one-on-one basis or in small groupsEnsuring the wellbeing and safety of students at all timesAssisting students who need special accommodationsAssisting students with assignments or difficult conceptsAssisting students with special learning requirements, including disabilities or English Language Learner studentsCollaborating with the teacher to identify students concerns and recommend solutionsAttending staff meetingsObserving state, school, and class rules and regulationsSkills And QualificationsAn effective teacher assistant possesses general knowledge in core content areas and uses a variety of soft skills to promote a safe, engaging, and educational experience in the classroom. High school diploma or GEDTeacher Assistant Training Program Certificate or 6 months of related experienceTraining in classroom activities and teaching practices preferredExperience working with special needs students preferredMust pass a BCIExcellent communication skills including writing, interpersonal communication, and active listeningGreat organization and planning skillsCollaboration and teamwork abilitiesFlexible and able to adapt in a rapidly changing environmentIn-depth knowledge of subjects or discipline they are assisting withUnderstanding of pedagogical best practicesAbility to engage students grades 6-12Ability to work well with students with various learning needsPatience and empathyCompassionate, positive, and encouraging attitude
