Purchasing Specialist ($30+/hr)
Position SummaryThe Purchasing Specialist is responsible for sourcing, evaluating, and procuring materials, equipment, components, and services required for manufacturing operations. This role requires technical understanding, supplier management skills, and the ability to collaborate closely with engineering, maintenance and production to ensure the timely, cost‑effective acquisition of goods that meet all performance and quality specifications.Key Responsibilities:ProcurementSource and purchase engineered components, specialty materials, machinery parts, and industrial supplies based on technical specifications.Interpret engineering drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), part numbers, and technical documentation to ensure procurement accuracy.Evaluate and compare supplier technical capabilities, product performance, and compliance with required standards.Supplier ManagementIdentify and qualify new suppliers to support quality, cost, and innovation goals.Manage supplier relationships, performance, and corrective actions when needed.Negotiate pricing, lead times, contract terms, and service agreements.Cost, Quality & Delivery PerformanceAnalyze total cost of ownership (TCO) and implement cost‑reduction strategies without compromising quality.Monitor supplier delivery performance and work with them to resolve delays or quality concerns.Maintain accurate procurement data in ERP/MRP systems, including pricing, part numbers, approved vendor lists, and lead times.Cross‑Functional CollaborationWork closely with Engineering to understand technical requirements, product changes, and new product development needs.Support Production and Maintenance by ensuring timely availability of critical components.Assist Quality Assurance in resolving supplier‑related quality issues and supporting audits when required.Qualifications:Required3–7 years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or technical environment.Ability to read technical drawings, specifications, and engineering documentation.Proficiency in ERP/MRP systemsExcellent negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.Key Competencies:Technical Aptitude – Understands engineered components and manufacturing processes.Problem‑Solving – Quickly identifies root causes and resolves supply issues.Attention to Detail – Ensures accuracy in specifications, pricing, and documentation.Vendor Negotiation – Effectively manages supplier pricing and performance.Urgency & Prioritization – Responds quickly to production and maintenance needs.Collaboration – Works well with cross-functional teams under time-sensitive conditions.Performance Metrics:On-time delivery rate for purchased itemsCost savings achieved (annualized)Supplier quality and defect rateERP data accuracyInternal customer satisfaction (Engineering, Maintenance, Production)Company Description:Miami Machine specializes in delivering value, quality, and exceptional service in the manufacturing and maintenance of paper-making equipment.
