Responsibilities for this PositionMaterial Handler - SkilledUS-CT-GrotonJob ID: 2025-15027Type: Full-Time# of Openings: 3Category: Building TradesEB Groton ShipyardOverviewGeneral Dynamics Electric Boat is seeking to hire Material Handlers in order to support meeting the needs of company growth driven by the Columbia Class Submarine Program within the South Yard Assembly Building. The Material Handlers will be responsible for the receipt, movement, storage and logistics of shipboard as well as non-shipboard material within the South Yard Assembly Building. The Material Handlers will also be responsible for verification and recording of markings on delivered material as well as packaging/ship-out of outgoing material.The selected individuals must have a strong work ethic, be detail oriented and possess a background of having worked in a fast-paced, dynamic industrial environment utilizing a variety of equipment such as carts, pallet trucks and electric stackers. The selected individuals must also have a background in Electric Boat business systems such as Electronic Desktop, Electronic Work Package (EWP), and must have an understanding of material control/protection policies, procedures and best practices utilized within the Groton Shipyard. Experience in the handling and protection of Special Emphasis and Level 1 material is expected.Responsibilities:Movement of shipboard as well as non-shipboard material within the South Yard Assembly Building utilizing carts, pallet trucks, electric stackers, etc.Receipt of incoming material, verification and documentation of material markingsInventory and storage of material within the South Yard Assembly Building material bufferslocationsPerform material movement transactions on computers using EWP systemsPackaging and protection of outbound material for ship-out and storage within Electric Boat warehousesCoordinating deliveries and ship-out of material with transportation departmentsPerform basic rigging functions to move material using cranes as neededRemoval of combustible materials such as pallets and other shipping materials from within the South Yard Assembly BuildingResponsibilitiesQualifications:Ability to physically lift parts and material weighing up to 40 pounds as well as push or pull pallet trucks and cartsAbility to qualify for electric walking stacker operation and for basic rigging qualificationsAbility to follow written instructions and procedures and pay attention to details, including verbatim transcription of material identification markingsMust be computer literateShould be able to work independently and as part of a teamMust be able to use hand and portable power toolsQualificationsRequired:High school graduate or GED or 2+ years of relevant technical experience5+ years of experience in material handling functions, use of hand and pallet trucks, and in the protection of shipboard materialMust be available for all shiftsPreferred:* Rigging experience with jib and boom cranes* Competence in blueprint reading
