Supply Chain Engineer
ABOUT THE ROLEAreté is seeking a technically skilled Supply Chain Engineer to sit at the intersection of software development and supply chain expertise — driving the design, development, and continuous improvement of our demand and supply planning platform. This role blends deep technical capability with hands-on supply chain domain knowledge, working closely with product, development, and client-facing teams to translate complex planning challenges into scalable software solutions.Our clients are global food & beverage and CPG companies relying on Areté’s software to power their planning operations across 45+ countries. The Supply Chain Engineer will play a critical role in shaping the intelligence behind those systems — from algorithm design and database architecture to feature development and technical problem-solving. If you are energized by building elegant solutions to hard supply chain problems and want your work to have direct, visible impact at world-class brands, this role was built for you.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESSoftware & Algorithm Development§ Design, develop, and enhance core supply chain algorithms including demand forecasting models, replenishment logic, and inventory optimization engines§ Translate supply chain business requirements into well-architected software specifications and functional designs§ Build and maintain data pipelines, database schemas, and backend components supporting Areté’s planning platform§ Conduct quantitative analysis and model validation to ensure algorithmic accuracy and performance across diverse client datasets§ Collaborate with the development team to implement new modules, enhancements, and platform capabilities aligned with the product roadmap§ Analyze software capabilities versus competitor offerings to identify gaps and inform engineering prioritiesData, SQL & Database Management§ Write and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and views to support application logic, reporting, and data validation§ Design and maintain relational database structures that support high-performance supply chain planning workloads§ Troubleshoot data integrity issues, query performance bottlenecks, and integration anomalies across client environments§ Develop and document data models, transformation logic, and ETL processes for client data onboarding and ongoing synchronization§ Partner with development and implementation teams to ensure database designs scale reliably across diverse client configurationsSupply Chain Domain Application§ Apply deep knowledge of supply chain concepts — demand planning, inventory management, S&OP, replenishment, and statistical forecasting — to guide engineering decisions§ Partner with implementation and customer success teams to diagnose complex planning issues and develop technical solutions§ Support client onboarding and go-live activities from an engineering and data perspective, including data validation, configuration review, and integration troubleshooting§ Define and document planning logic, configuration parameters, and algorithmic behavior to enable effective client deployment and internal knowledge sharingProduct & Cross-Functional Collaboration§ Work closely with the product team to shape the technical roadmap, define requirements, and prioritize development efforts based on client impact and strategic value§ Serve as a technical resource during pre-sales and implementation scoping to assess feasibility and estimate engineering effort§ Travel on-site to work alongside Implementation teams at client locations during key project phases, providing hands-on technical support and ensuring successful deployments§ Present complex quantitative and technical concepts clearly to both internal teams and client stakeholders§ Contribute to quality assurance, testing, and release management activities across the software development lifecycleQUALIFICATIONSRequired§ 3+ years of experience in a software engineering, technical product, or supply chain systems role§ Strong SQL proficiency — writing, optimizing, and debugging complex queries, stored procedures, and joins in a production environment§ Hands-on experience with relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle) including schema design and performance tuning§ Programming experience in Python or a similar language; ability to write, review, and contribute to production code§ Solid foundation in supply chain concepts including demand planning, inventory optimization, forecasting methodologies, and replenishment logic§ Demonstrated ability to develop software specifications and translate business requirements into technical designs§ Experience with data analysis, statistical modeling, or quantitative methods applied to business problems§ Strong problem-solving skills with a track record of delivering solutions in complex, ambiguous environments§ Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to present technical concepts to non-technical audiencesPreferred§ Experience with ERP or supply chain planning software environments (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Blue Yonder, o9)§ Knowledge of machine learning or advanced statistical forecasting techniques§ Background in software product management or technical product ownership§ Experience in food & beverage, CPG, or manufacturing industries§ Familiarity with agile development methodologies and software lifecycle management§ Exposure to cloud platforms, APIs, or enterprise data integration patternsABOUT ARETÉFounded in 1984, Areté, Inc. is a growing software and consulting firm headquartered in Pennington, NJ, delivering best-in-class demand and supply planning solutions to clients in 45+ countries across 6 continents. We offer a salary range of $75,000–$95,000 based on experience, comprehensive health and dental plans, a 401(k) plan, and a dynamic, collaborative work environment close to both New York City and Philadelphia.
