Vice President, Finance
Role OverviewProvide strategic leadership and operational oversight for financial and IT functions. Set financial vision, ensure fiscal sustainability, and leverage technology for data-driven decision-making. Act as a trusted advisor to executive leadership and the Board, overseeing accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, grants compliance, audits, and IT systems.Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Strategy & LeadershipSet vision for financial planning and analysis, anticipating needs and directing strategic analysis.Guide data-driven decision-making for leadership and the Board.Lead development of operating and capital budgets.Manage unexpected or complex financial situations.Build relationships with Board, bankers, auditors, and finance vendors.Lead Finance Committee and contribute to Board discussions.Represent organization at events and community functions.Financial Operations & OversightOversee financial transactions, ensuring timely and accurate close.Ensure preparation of financial statements per GAAP and non-profit accounting.Maintain and improve internal controls and financial processes.Manage cash flow, investments, and reserves.Approve vendors and oversee accounts payable/receivable.Review payroll and ensure regulatory compliance.Prepare audit schedules and manage annual audit process.Mentor Controller and manage accounting staff.Grants & ComplianceAssess full lifecycle of grants, including financial vetting and risk assessment.Review and approve grant agreements for compliance and reporting.Ensure timely and accurate grant billing, reporting, and reconciliation.Monitor grant compliance with funder and regulatory requirements.Coordinate financial reporting with program and development teams.Oversee insurance policies and risk-mitigation strategies.Technology & Systems ManagementOversee IT function with managed service provider.Evaluate, implement, and optimize financial and operational technology systems.Manage system configurations and assist with technology improvements.Qualifications & CompetenciesRequired Education, Knowledge & ExperienceBA in Accounting; certifications desired but not required.Strong knowledge of GAAP and non-profit accounting.Experience in financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.Proficiency with automated accounting systems (e.g., Intacct, Ramp, ADP).Experience managing audits and regulatory compliance.Experience developing finance and accounting staff.Skills & AttributesHigh accuracy, analytical thinking, and problem-solving ability.Technology-savvy with a continuous improvement mindset.Strong communication and collaboration skills.Ability to translate financial data for non-financial audiences.Strategic thinker with operational capability.High integrity, sound judgment, and commitment to transparency.Ability to manage multiple priorities in a collaborative environment.
