Job Title: Fiber Optic Technician (Installation, Splicing & Testing)
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Fiber Optic Technician to support installation, termination, splicing, and testing of fiber optic networks across multiple sites. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with both single-mode (SMF) and multi-mode (MMF) fiber systems, along with strong troubleshooting capabilities using industry-standard tools.
This role involves working in dynamic environments including data centers, indoor and outdoor installations, and requires flexibility for travel and on-call support.
Key Responsibilities
Cabling & Termination
Install and mount racks, patch panels, and fiber optic hardware.
Perform grounding for racks, equipment, and cabling.
Terminate fiber connectors including LC, SC, ST, FC, FDDI, SMA, MPO/MTP for SMF & MMF.
Terminate simplex and duplex jumper cords.
Handle indoor tight-buffered and outdoor plant fiber termination.
Install fan-out kits and buffer tubes.
Calculate end-to-end loss budgets as per TIA/EIA standards .
Testing & Troubleshooting
Conduct fiber testing using OTDR, Fluke, and EFXO tools.
Perform continuity testing for horizontal and riser cables.
Troubleshoot issues such as opens, shorts, cross pairs, and signal loss.
Identify and resolve fiber faults end-to-end and across network infrastructure.
Perform fusion and mechanical splicing for all types of fiber cables.
Execute building entrance splicing, maintenance splicing, and direct buried splicing.
Ensure minimal signal loss and high-quality splicing standards.
Documentation & Compliance
Accurately complete documentation including
Timesheets
Work orders
Material transfers
Change requests
Follow company processes, safety guidelines, and project standards.
Additional Responsibilities
Provide onsite and after-hours support (on-call rotation) .
Travel to multiple sites based on project requirements.
Act as a liaison between company and client representatives.
Physical & Work Requirements
Ability to work at heights, on ladders, and in confined spaces.
Lift up to 50 lbs and move up to 75 lbs.
Ability to distinguish colors (fiber coding), read small print, and recognize audio signals.
Self-motivated with strong problem-solving and communication skills.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Hands-on experience in fiber optic installation and termination
Proficiency in connector termination methods (Unicam, anaerobic, heat-cure)
Experience in testing & troubleshooting SMF and MMF systems (OTDR & power meter)
Ability to use standard fiber and networking tools
Preferred Qualifications
3–5 years of experience in fiber optic field
Industry certifications (FOA, Corning, or equivalent)
Experience in OSP (Outside Plant) and confined space environments
Expertise in fusion and mechanical splicing
Punch tools (110/66 block), tone generator
