Details Work in a 24-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at a 637-licensed-bed, Level 1 Trauma, academic teaching hospital with a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center designation Primary patient population consists of cardiothoracic and vascular surgical patients requiring pre- and post-operative step-down progressive care, including pre/post LVAD patients Secondary patient population includes cardiology, pulmonology, and general medical/surgical patients with co-morbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, CHF, and electrolyte imbalances RN patient ratio is 1:4–6; supported by LPNs (1:4–6) and 2–3 CNAs per shift Key procedures and skills include trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, Glucommander, insulin drips, heparin drips, titrated drips, central line management, wound care, and post-op monitoring EMR is Epic; experience is required Equipment used includes Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis med dispensing, Philips monitors, VS3 vital sign monitors, Dynamap portable monitors, bladder scanners, PCA pain management, and suction machines 12-hour night shifts, 7P–7A, 36 hours per week Weekend rotation of 6 shifts per 6-week schedule No on-call responsibilities Floating required to all adult med-surg and telemetry units within the facility, up to 6 shifts per 6-week schedule Requirements Active GA or compact RN license currently in hand Required certifications: BLS, Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR), ACLS, and NIHSS Medical-Surgical national certification preferred Minimum 2 years of PCU or step-down nursing experience, with most recent experience within the last year Experience in a Level 1 Trauma and/or academic teaching hospital setting required Proficiency with Epic EMR required Strong cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation skills required Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN Additional Information Responsibilities include cardiac monitoring, telemetry interpretation, wound care, post-op monitoring, IV and central line management, care coordination with interdisciplinary teams, and discharge planning with a focus on renal and fluid management Unit support includes CNAs, a unit secretary (7A–11P), a house-wide call secretary (11P–7A), a charge nurse, a PICC team, discharge resource nurses, respiratory therapy (RT) 24/7, hospitalist 24/7, intensivist 24/7, and a central telemetry monitoring unit Orientation consists of 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules followed by 2 days of departmental orientation Holiday coverage required — travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned major holidays, including Thanksgiving Day or the day after, 12/24 or 12/25, and 12/31 or 1/1 RTO requests require manager approval Navy scrubs required for RNs Must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year following permanent employment before being eligible for this position Local candidates are accepted — no radius rule applies; same rate for local travelers (GA facilities) First-time travelers are welcome to apply A clinical interview with the manager is required as part of the selection process American Traveler Job ID P-687640.
