DescriptionHowe House is seeking a volunteer Social Media Content Creator to lead the organization’s social media efforts. Working closely with the Executive Director, this role will create a Social media strategy, create and manage content for Instagram, Facebook and Tik Tok and ensure consistent, effective messaging and increased community visibility.Organizational OverviewFriends of the Howe House is a nonprofit organization committed to preserving the historic house of James Howe, a formerly enslaved man who was freed in 1817. As one of the oldest standing buildings owned by an African American, this house tells the story of freedom and slavery, the importance of homeownership, the development of African American communities in the United States, and the role of African Americans in the growth of towns like Montclair, NJ. Our mission is to protect and uplift the James Howe House as a tangible reminder of the true history of slavery and its aftermath. Our vision is to empower New Jerseyans with the knowledge about our shared legacy as the Slave State of the North. We seek to develop programming that connects this history to the challenges of today.ResponsibilitiesContent Creation: Produce high-quality, original content, including short-form videos (Reels/TikToks), photos, and graphics.Trend Monitoring: Stay current on social media trends, algorithm changes, and emerging formats to maintain relevance.Strategy & Scheduling: Develop and maintain a content calendar, ensuring consistent branding and messaging across all channels.Audience Engagement: Monitor platforms, respond to comments and messages, and foster community interaction.Analytics & Reporting: Analyze content performance metrics (engagement, reach, shares) to refine future strategies.Collaboration: Work with creative teams, marketing specialists, and stakeholders to align content with broader goalsRequirementsExperience with Social Media PlatformsProficiency in content creation tools such Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, or video editing apps Skills in shooting and editing, using a smartphone or DSLR.Strong copywriting and storytelling skills to create engaging captions and narratives.Ability to interpret data to understand audience preferences and improve performance
