Laboratory testing is an integral part of the delivery of care and the patient experience. The laboratory assistant performs specimen collection, is responsible for proper storage of specimens, prepares specimens for transport and performs all point of care testing and quality testing to meet College of American Pathologists (CAP)/ Joint Commission and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) standards. The laboratory assistant must review provider orders and maintain up to date knowledge of new laboratory standards and information. The laboratory assistant is responsible for keeping accurate records, such as quality control and temperature monitoring in laboratory areas, and must be committed to patient identification and excellence in customer service.
