The paraprofessional works under the direction of a certified teacher and/or other certified professional, inclusive of school and district-level administrators.Qualifications:Must hold a high school diploma or equivalentMust hold a Bachelors's Degree, Associates' Degree or achieve a passing score on the ParaPro test from the State of ConnecticutMust demonstrate knowledge of computers, copiers, and related technology to support student learning (i.e. Microsoft Office products when necessary)Must have effective communication skillsAbility to work effectively with a diverse student populationsSuch alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptableReports To:Certified Educator, including school and district-level administratorsPerformance Responsibilities:Works with individual students, small groups of students, or the entire class to support student comprehension of concepts introduced by certified staffWorks in collaboration with certified staff to implement academic and/or non-academic learning activitiesRecords grades, monitors, collects, and corrects students work, including objective-type tests and quizzesProvides instructional supports and guidance for well-established school routines for all substitute teachers that may be placed in the classroomAssists with the supervision of students in a variety of school settings (i.e. lunch periods, play periods, assemblies, hallways, recess, bus loading areas and field trips) and during other school-sponsored activities transpiring during normal school hoursAttends all professional development sessions (as directed by school and/or district-level administrators) for the purpose of acquiring knowledge and skills that are pertinent to their job performanceSupports the implementation of student behavioral plansDistributes, organizes and collects instructional materialsCommunicates with supervising instructional and administrative staff for the purpose of assisting in evaluating students' progress and/or implementing IEP objectivesKeeps bulletin board and other classroom learning displays up-to-dateOperates equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposesAssists medically fragile or physically disabled students for the purpose of maintaining students' personal hygiene, inclusive of toileting, diapering, and lifting when requiredProvides classroom coverage for teachers attending PPTs, 504 meetings, teacher evaluation conferences, SRBI meetings, other meetings, and professional development opportunitiesMakes copies of instructional or informational materials for classroom teachersCoordinates lunch counts with the food service providerProvides secretarial coverage in the school's main office (i.e. assists with answering telephones, providing information and assistance to callers, making copies, and processing tardy students)Assists in distributing incoming mail appropriatelyCollaborates with appropriate school personnel to organize Kindergarten OrientationsMaintains confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and othersAssists the Media Specialist(s) with maintenance of the library circulation systemRe-shelves library booksCarries out other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the classroom teacher and/or school or district-level administratorEvaluation:Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the classroom teacher to whom the paraprofessional reports, or the appropriate school or district-level administrator*This job description is not, nor is it intended to be, a complete statement ofall the duties, functions and responsibilities required in this position.This job description represents a list of responsibilities for special education and regulation education paraprofessionals.
