Position SummaryThe classroom teacher is responsible for the planning, assessment of student learning and delivery of academic instruction in his/her assigned subject or grade level, management of classroom activities and behavior, providing and/or referring appropriate intervention and communicating with parents and staff related to student growth and achievement. II. Required Education, Experience & QualificationsBachelor's Degree in EducationCurrent Ohio Department of Education LicensureHighly Qualified Teacher designation in the assigned subject areaMeet all health requirements mandated by lawSatisfactory completion of the BCII and FBI background checkPossession of a valid motor vehicle licenseIII. Job Responsibilities & DutiesInstructional Planning:Design instructional lessons & goals using appropriate resources and knowledge of students' skills, knowledge, language proficiency, learning styles, and special needs to effectively present learning objectives and achieve desired outcomesCreate lessons & unit structures that support the instructional outcomes, engage students in meaningful learning and are varied and appropriate to the studentsMaintain current, accurate daily/weekly lesson plans that align with state standards and the District's adopted courses of student/curriculum goals; ensure plans are available for substitute teachers when necessaryAssist with the preparation of IEP, 504 and/or other interventions for assigned students meeting eligibility requirementsDevelop appropriate formative and summative assessments to provide accurate and meaningful data to inform instruction and to adjust curriculum / instructional methods as necessary to enhance student learningEffectively collaborate with colleagues to incorporate research-based, exemplary instructional practices in the classroomInstruction and Assessment:Communicate clear and accurate directions, procedures and explanation of the purpose of the lesson or unit (verbal and written)Engage students in learning through the use of effective questioning and discussion techniques and providing appropriate feedback; ensure participation of all students in classroom discussionCreate activities and group assignments appropriate to students cognitive abilities and the instructional purpose of the lesson; ensure the structure and pace is appropriate for all studentsDemonstrate flexibility and responsiveness in adjustments to lessons, student questions and strategies to approachAnalyze student assessment data to examine the effectiveness of the curriculum in addressing the learning needs of all students and implement appropriate changesCreate an environment of respect and rapport by modeling appropriate behavior and managing student behavior accordingly; implement disciplinary consequences when warrantedEstablish a culture of high expectations for student learning, achievement and pride in their work & accomplishmentsCreate routines and transitions to minimize loss of instructional time and keep students focused and on trackManage physical classroom space, instructional materials and classroom procedures for safety and efficiencyProfessionalism:Accurately reflect on individual effectiveness of teaching style and outcome of instruction programs and take appropriate action for continuous improvementEnsure accuracy of all student records including grades, assignments, progress, individual education plans, and non-instructional activitiesProvide frequent communication to families about instructional programming, student progress, and other relevant information, respecting and responding sensitively to cultural normsDevelop relationships of mutual support and cooperation with colleagues, actively participating in professional learning communities and making a substantial contribution to school and district projects/activitiesSeek out opportunities for professional development to enhance content knowledge and pedagogical skills and actively assist other educators through professional collaboration and involvement on committees and teamsOther Duties and Responsibilities:Attend training, meetings, and in-services as requiredParticipate in IEP meetings as necessaryServe as a cooperating teacher/mentor for student teachersPlan/attend educational field tripsAssist in the development of the course of study, selection of textbooks, equipment, and other instructional materialsPerform other duties as assigned by the Director of Pupil Services and/or Building Principal IV.
