This position is not eligible for work visa sponsorship.Position only available to current, regular, full-time Missouri State University employees? - No, Position is available to all applicants.Appointment Type - Full Time RegularExempt/Non-Exempt - Non-ExemptGeneral Function - The Student Resource Specialist – West Plains will assist the Director of Student Support Services, Counseling Services, Grizzly Care Team, and ASCEND program with addressing the non-clinical needs of students who have health, mental well-being, economic, and/or food insecurity challenges through a variety of interventions, referrals, and follow-up services. Responsibilities will include case management, assistance with the Grizzly Care Team, supporting management of Student Support Services, ASCEND and serve as the Title IX liaison for student concerns. This position will provide collaboration and consultation with faculty, staff, academic departments, off-campus stakeholders, parents/families, other campus stakeholders, colleagues within Student Services, and other campus partners to minimize academic disruptions and help resolve problems affecting students' academic success. This full-time position on the Missouri State-West Plains campus will work to foster student development and well-being by offering a supportive personalized response.Description of Primary Duties - ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESServes as an intake person for students in crisis, chronic, or emerging situations that compromise the student's ability to be academically successful.Collaborates with the Vice Chancellor of Student Services to implement non-clinical interventions to provide follow up care, support and resources for students who have challenges with academic, health, wellness, conduct, safety, or their general welfare or may be at risk of not being retained if support is not provided.Assists Student Support Services Staff in scheduling, completing administrative paperwork with students, researching files and records, and referring students to the appropriate level of care.Monitors and documents student progress for students who have been referred to campus or community resources. Provides follow-up services to encourage compliance with recommendations.Reviews medical, psychoeducational, psychological, and other forms of disability documentation, in collaboration with the Disability Resources Center, as preparation for meetings with students to determine appropriate accommodations.Coordinates and administers accommodation-related services to students with disabilities including, but not limited to, note-taking services, auxiliary aides, reader services, scribe services, interpreter services, testing accommodations, and assistive technology.Serves as the liaison between Title IX Coordinator and students to arrange for meetings, follow up on reporting, and connect students with Title IX related services.Works collaboratively with various university departments (i.e., Residence Life, Dining Services, Academic Advising, Financial Aid, Registration and Records, etc.) on individual action and support plans for students of concern. Cultivates relationships with university and community resources and readily contacts resources on the behalf of students.Attends weekly Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) meeting and coordinates referrals and support services for students referred for support. The Student Resource Specialist will also serve as a member of the Grizzly Care Team/BIT.Supports the work of the Vice Chancellor of Student Services and Director of Student Support Services when managing a crisis or student death to ensure students in emergency situations are receiving appropriate support, including coordination of memorial activities.Assists Student Support Services with outreach and educational activities and/or events.Maintains accurate and confidential student records using established protocols.Contributes to the development of policies and procedures on a broad range of issues affecting Student Services by serving on appropriate committees and supporting the goals of the unit and the University.Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses as required by the Vice Chancellor of Student Services.Contributes to the overall success of Student Services and the University by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.Minimum Acceptable Qualifications - Education: An associate degree is required. A bachelor's degree is preferred in student affairs, higher education, social work, counseling, criminal justice, or related field. An equivalent combination of years of experience and education may be considered for substitution of educational requirements. Experience: Prior experience of at least one year in mental health, counseling, social work, higher education, or a related field is preferred. Skills: The ability to recognize and set appropriate boundaries with students, including maintaining a focus on connecting students to resources and coaching.
