Job SummaryThe Mechanic 3 is responsible for advanced to complex diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on trailers, diesel, and gasoline powered vehicles and plant equipment.Essential Duties/Responsibilities:Nothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time.Diagnoses and repairs advanced mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systemsPerform emissions testing (state specific) and ensures compliance with environmental regulationsActs as mentor to Mechanic 1 and 2 as neededCoordinates with vendors and manufacturers for parts, services bulletins, and warranty workSupports Fleet reliability initiatives and continuous improvement effortsUtilizes OEM diagnostic software and tools for troubleshooting and calibrationInterprets and understands repair manuals in order to properly repair the equipmentDiagnoses and repairs diesel and gas engines, electrical systems, transmission and hydraulic systemsTroubleshoots and repairs air brake systems, suspension components, and drivetrainsUses and understands diagnostics software and scan tools to identify and resolve issuesMaintains accurate service records and complete work orders in fleet management systemsResponds to roadside service calls for disabled vehicles when requiredMaintains cleanliness and organization of the shop and work areasPerforms all preventive maintenance and repair work necessary on all fleet vehicles and plant vehicle, and plant equipment (wheel Loaders, Skid Steers, Man Lifts, Scissor Lifts, Backhoe, Lawn mowers, and Farm Tractors)Reviews driver vehicle inspection reports and repair inspections as directed by the Fleet ManagerPerforms routine maintenance such as oil changes, filter replacements, and fluid checksInspects and replaces basic components like belts, hoses, batteries, and lightsAssists in diagnosing mechanical issues using basic diagnostic toolsDocuments work performed and parts used through maintenance logs or fleet management systemsResponsible for being familiar with and observing all company safety rules and regulations; recognizes that safety is top company priority; attends regularly scheduled safety meetingsParticipate in ongoing training and certification programs (travel as needed)Other duties as assignedMinimum Qualifications:High School Diploma or GED preferredMust have valid Driver's license Brake Certification required 7+ years of experience in vehicle maintenance or related technical field OR Vocational training plus 3+ years of related work ORMust have personal basic tool set to perform preventative maintenance based on locationProficiency of diesel and gasoline engine operation and componentsExperience with OEM diagnostics tools and softwareAbility to interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, work orders, and technical manualsExperience with hand tools, power tools, and shop equipmentDetail oriented; highly organizedProficient experience with basic computer tasks and use of fleet softwarePreferred Qualifications: Class A CDL (depending on location Class A CDL is required, confirm with location)ASE certifications in areas such as Diesel Engines, Brakes, and Electrical Systems desired Ability to successfully lead teamsExceptional written and oral communication skillsSelf-starter; self-motivatedThe information contained in this job description is intended to describe the essential job functions required of those assigned to this job.
