Help modernise the networks the world runs on, without the waste.
We're a global leader in sustainable telecom network solutions and one of the fastest-growing businesses in our sector, operating across the US, UK, Europe and beyond. We help operators extend the life of their networks through everything from multi-vendor parts sourcing to responsible decommissioning and network engineering, saving our customers money while cutting environmental impact.
We're looking for an experienced DWDM Tactical Planning Engineer to join our Networks & Engineering team on a 12-month, fully remote project. If you've worked on large-scale deployment and migration programmes and enjoy the detailed, hands-on side of network planning, this one's for you.
What you'll be doing
Working under the Head of Planning, you'll design and execute the tactical solutions that migrate legacy DWDM/SONET services onto strategic platforms, modernising ageing infrastructure with minimal disruption to the customer. Day to day, you'll:
- Develop and execute low-level migration and grooming plans (MOPs)
- Design tactical solutions to transition legacy SDH/DWDM services
- Plan the removal or addition of SONET/DWDM devices within network topologies
- Conduct circuit audits and inventory assessments
- Perform access tail/vendor audits and data analysis
- Plan new Gig/10G/100G paths over DWDM infrastructure and new TDM/SDH paths over existing capacity
- Identify capacity requirements and site-specific solutions
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams (Fibre, DWDM, IP, Field)
What you'll bring
- Strong understanding of DWDM and OTN principles and topologies
- Solid grasp of SONET networks and topologies, plus Layer 1 IP networks
- Hands-on experience with circuit and inventory audits
- Proficiency in data analysis and migration strategy development
- The ability to write clear, detailed MOPs for migration activities
- Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- A driven, calm-under-pressure approach and genuine problem-solving instinct
- Familiarity with inventory systems (Granite/TIRKS) preferred
Product knowledge we'd love to see
- DWDM: ADVA / Ciena 6500 / Infinera (preferred)
- SONET: Alcatel-Lucent / Cisco / Fujitsu / Ciena 5410 / 5430
- Nortel TN Series
- Inventory systems: Granite / TIRKS (preferred)
Why join us
- Excellent benefits on offer
- Be part of one of the fastest-growing businesses in the telecom sector
- Work that genuinely supports the circular economy and a more sustainable industry
