Ecologist/Project ManagerLocation: North Country Ecological Services Team - Gloversville, NY (Hybrid)Employment Type: Full-time (Part-time considered)Compensation: $80,000 to $90,000 annually (~$38-$43/hour, based on experience) plus benefitsPreferred Start Date: June 8, 2026About the RoleWe are seeking an experienced ecologist who can manage ecological assessment, restoration, and permitting projects from start to finish including client engagement, proposal development, budgeting, field implementation, and delivery. This role is for someone who is ready to take ownership of work, not just contribute to it. You will work closely with our Senior Ecologist while independently managing assigned projects, coordinating and supervising field technicians, communicating directly with clients and agencies, and ensuring successful project execution.Key ResponsibilitiesProject Management & Client LeadershipLead ecological projects from proposal through completionDevelop scopes of work, budgets, and schedulesServe as a primary point of contact for clients and agenciesManage project budgets, timelines, and deliverablesCoordinate with administrative staff on invoicing and project setup Ecological Fieldwork & ImplementationConduct and oversee wetland delineations, habitat assessments, and ecological surveysLead restoration and natural resource management projectsSupervise field crews and ensure high-quality data collection Reporting, Permitting & DeliverablesPrepare and manage technical reports, maps, and permit documentationSupport and navigate state and federal permitting processesEnsure deliverables meet company and regulatory standards Team CoordinationSupervise and support field techniciansProvide clear direction, expectations, and follow-throughCollaborate with senior staff to maintain quality and consistencyQualificationsRequiredBachelor’s degree in ecology, environmental science, natural resources, or related field5+ years of relevant experience, including demonstrated project management responsibilityDirect experience managing projects from proposal through completionExperience communicating directly with clients, partners, and agenciesStrong working knowledge of:Aquatic resource delineation and permittingEcological surveys and habitat assessmentRestoration and natural resource managementProficiency with GPS, ArcGIS Pro, and Microsoft 365Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills PreferredSupervisory experienceProject Management CertificationNYS Pesticide Applicator LicenseWhat We’re Looking ForThis role is best suited for someone who takes ownership and follows through and is comfortable communicating directly with clients. This person understands how to balance fieldwork, budgets, and deadlines and is ready to grow into increased responsibility and leadership. This is not a training role for project management fundamentals.
