Pay Schedule I Grade 28 Regular Schedule: 35 hours per weekA vacancy exists in the Department of Public Works, Safety and Training Division. Proof of licenses, certifications, and/or education must be submitted with each application.Definition of ResponsibilityUnder general supervision, oversees the Department of Public Works Safety & Training Division. Coordinates the department's preparedness and response in support of homeland security, emergency management operations, and all safety & health programs.Examples of Essential DutiesOversees the Department of Public Works Safety & Training Division.Manages the daily activities to include scheduling, training, testing, and staffing.Oversees maintenance of employee records and files.Develops and administers new and existing training programs. Manages the Public Works Safety and Training Program.Prepares, coordinates, and evaluates required training to meet certification requirements, and the evaluation of occupational and environmental health hazards.Serves as the department's Emergency Operations Coordinator.Manages and coordinates activities between the bureaus and other agencies.Coordinates activities for the department's Homeland Security operations.Manages the Public Works Steering Committee to develop policies and procedures.Reviews and coordinates materials and equipment purchases.Assists in maintaining safety regulations and policies for the Department of Public Works and other agencies.Examples of Other DutiesMay present training programs.Performs other related duties as required.(NOTE: The duties and responsibilities listed above are for the purpose of determining a common set of minimum qualifications for all positions in this class. Each position may not be required to perform all of the essential job functions listed.)Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associates in arts degree, preferably in occupational safety, environmental health, or a closely related field.PlusThree years' experience in which occupational safety and/or environmental health inspection and maintenance was the primary function of the position.Additional qualifying experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of three years for the required education.Licenses and CertificationsPossession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a non-commercial, class C Maryland driver's license is required at the time of appointment.Proof of Licenses, Certifications and EducationApplicants are required to submit proof of licenses, certifications and education beyond high school to meet the required and preferred qualifications of the position. Diplomas or transcripts must show the applicant's major field of study. Copies and unofficial transcripts are acceptable. Applicants must state the dates and duties of past and present experience clearly and completely for evaluation purposes. Complete County sponsored CPR and First Aid training. Certifications must be maintained throughout employment. Must be able to obtain Instructor Training Certification along with the National Incident Management System (NIMS) required certifications (ICS 100, 200, and 700) within 18 months of employment. Employees in this classification are subject to call to duty in emergencies, and may be required to work overtime with little or no notice.Physical and Environmental ConditionsThe work of this classification is routinely active, and involves frequent walking and standing, some lifting and carrying of objects of moderate weight, and the operation of vehicles and other equipment which require manipulative skills and hand-eye coordination.
