Big Engine Mechanic - EMD
Mike's, Inc. is searching for a big engine mechanic, specializing in the maintenance and repair of 645 and 710 EMD engines. Their work involves inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing EMD engines in marine/towing vessels, and locomotives.
Key Responsibilities:
Inspection and Diagnosis: Examine equipment for wear and tear, diagnose problems using specialized tools, and identify the root cause of malfunctions.
Repair and Replacement: Repair or replace defective parts, such as bearings, pistons, and gears, and may disassemble and reassemble entire engines or components.
Testing and Adjustment: Test repaired equipment to ensure proper functionality and make necessary adjustments to meet manufacturer specifications.
Record Keeping: Maintain detailed records of repairs, maintenance activities, and parts used, often using computerized systems.
Field Service: May travel to worksites to repair equipment that cannot be easily moved.
Communication: Communicate with supervisors, operators, and other team members to coordinate repairs and ensure smooth operations.
Safety: Adhere to safety protocols and regulations to maintain a safe working environment.
Skills and Qualifications:
Mechanical Aptitude: Strong understanding of mechanical components.
Diagnostic Skills: Ability to diagnose problems using specialized tools and techniques.
Repair Skills: Proficiency in using hand tools, and power tools.
Troubleshooting: Ability to identify and resolve complex mechanical issues.
Physical Stamina: Ability to lift heavy parts and work in various environmental conditions.
Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with team members and customers.
Attention to Detail: Ability to follow instructions and ensure accurate repairs.
Experience: Previous experience working with EMD Engines is often required or preferred.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions; wet and/or humid conditions; extreme cold; extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to high and precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
Physical Demands:
Employee is regularly required to use manual dexterity; stand, walk, bend, the use of hands and fingers, push and pull to handle, feel, with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to climb and balance. Climb stairs ladders and scaffolding. The employee is required to sit; stoop, bend, kneel, crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
Mental Activities:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to understand English, and utilize teamwork skills. The employee is frequently required to speak English, and use decision making skills. The employee is occasionally required to use problem analysis, training and supervision skills. The employee will be occasionally asked to read write English, perform basic math, exercise independent judgment, and use discretion.
