The Company offers a wide range of critical components and engineered solutions that connect, protect, and purify our world.Job DescriptionWe are actively pursuing a Research Scientist II with a strong technical background to join our Research and Development Team in Munising, Michigan. This position reports to the Indafor segment of our Sustainable and Adhesives Solutions Team. The role will be responsible for new product development, formulation development and modification, experimental production trials, specification development, supplier relationships, production troubleshooting, and customer support activities. This role is focused on Indafor branded products, with the potential to support other Mativ brand areas as needed or desired.ResponsibilitiesDevelop an in-depth understanding of all manufacturing equipment and processes to effectively manage new product development, cost reduction opportunities, and process optimizationEnsure R&D activities comply with corporate, state, and federal laws and regulations, including employee and product safety requirementsCreate and control intellectual propertyConduct laboratory and machine trials to support new product development projectsDevelop and execute trial plans, collaborating with cross-functional teams, such as Operations and QualityWork with cross-functional teams internal and external to the organization, including customersDetermine and test Critical to Quality specifications for products and processesExecute projects within the framework of the established Stage-Gate processGenerate technical reports with relevant data, conclusions, and recommendationsTravel up to 10 %, including local travel to outside service providers, customers, or internal mill locationsQualificationsRequiredA bachelor's degree in paper science, polymer science, or a related technical field of study3+ years of experience required in paper or coating operations and/or product developmentMust have solid Microsoft Office skills, particularly in Excel and WordStrong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skillsCapability to manage multiple tasks or projects at once within cross-functional teamsA demonstrated ability to effectively communicate internally and with customers and suppliersPreferredLean Six Sigma Green or Black BeltSaturation application or formulation experienceA desire to advance towards people and team managementWHAT WE OFFERMativ benefits say a lot about how we care for each other.
