Senior Data Modeler (Data Modeler II – Emerging Technology)Location: Remote (Work From Home)Contract Type: W2/C2C, Long TermOverviewWe are seeking an experienced Senior Data Modeler to support a State of Texas agency's mainframe transformation program. This role focuses on data modeling, data architecture, and database design/development to transform legacy mainframe systems into modern, normalized database solutions. The ideal candidate will have strong experience across MS SQL Server, Oracle, Snowflake, and Mainframe IMS hierarchical databases, along with awareness of a broader technical stack including SSIS, Informatica, MuleSoft, COBOL, Java, Salesforce, .NET, and GoAnywhere.ResponsibilitiesAnalyze business operations, applications, and existing systems to determine and document database requirementsDevelop and implement data models for new projects; maintain and enhance existing data models and architecturesCreate ERDs and other diagrams to represent complex database designs and data modelsDevelop data structures for transactional systems and provide guidance for business intelligence systemsImplement new database solutions and changes, ensuring designs are normalized, secure, and standards-compliantCreate technical documentation for processes, interfaces, and data governance (including PII classification)Collect, query, and analyze data using standard database tools and techniquesApply Change Data Capture (CDC) methods for bulk data movementPromote code from development to production environments using version control (GitHub or equivalent)Support implementation of SaaS/COTS applications, Data Warehouse, and Operational Data Store initiativesProvide status and progress reports to stakeholders and project managersElicit and translate business requirements into technical data solutions across the full SDLCRequired Skills & Experience5+ years creating data architecture artifacts (data dictionaries, pipeline topologies, ERDs)5+ years documenting data architecture, processes, and workflows5+ years collaborating with stakeholders to translate data requirements into technical solutions5+ years as a Data Architect/Modeler and Data Analyst, with strong proficiency in requirements gathering and data modeling across OLTP, Data Warehousing, OLAP, and ETL environments5+ years designing data warehouse architecture using tools such as DBSchema, SqlDBM, or ER/Studio5+ years of full data warehousing lifecycle experience: requirements gathering, feasibility analysis, architecture, design, data quality/profiling/cleansing, source-target mapping, gap analysis, ETL/data integration, data marts, and star/snowflake dimensional modeling3+ years in Relational Data Modeling (3NF) and Snowflake architecture/system design3+ years in Dimensional Data Modeling (Star-Schema, Facts & Dimension tables)3+ years of system analysis experience in F&D Analytics, ER/Dimensional Modeling, and RDBMS design3+ years in BI/DW solutions (ETL, OLAP, data marts), Informatica, and Power BI, including leading application/ETL/BI/testing teamsExperience creating and optimizing data pipelines for BI and analytics2+ years of experience with Mainframe, Oracle, and SQL databasesPreferred QualificationsExtensive experience with ETL and reporting tools such as Power BIExperience collaborating with DBAs to improve ETL processesExperience with code reviews and data engineering best practicesFamiliarity with Git and CI/CD practicesExperience in the Oil & Gas industry, including compliance/enforcement-related data modeling projectsKnowledge of data governance and compliance requirements in Oil & GasStrong communication, collaboration, and conflict-resolution skillsBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience)Certifications such as Snowflake SnowPro, Certified Professional Data Modeler, or Microsoft Certified: Data Management & Analytics (or similar)Contract DetailsDuration: 09/01/2026 – 08/31/2027 (est. 2,250 hours max), with option for three one-year renewals through 2029 based on performance and fundingWork Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, excluding state holidays; occasional after-hours work with pre-approvalWork Location: Remote (Work From Home); candidate must provide own device capable of remote connection (GoToMyPC or similar) with headset, or coordinate with agency for provided equipmentOvertime paid at quoted hourly rate with pre-approvalPriceSenz is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
