Registered Nurse (RN), Stepdown
The RN Stepdown nurse provides nursing care to patients recovering from surgery, trauma, or serious illness. They manage patients with complex medical conditions, monitor vital signs, administer medications, and collaborate with the healthcare team to create and implement care plans. The nurse ensures patient safety, comfort, and emotional support while working within a team to achieve optimal outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care:
Provide direct care to patients in the stepdown unit, which includes assessing and monitoring their vital signs, lab results, and other indicators of health status.
Administer medications, IV fluids, and treatments as prescribed by physicians.
Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) and provide comfort measures.
Ensure timely and accurate documentation of patient care in the electronic health record (EHR).
Monitoring and Assessment:
Monitor patients with complex or unstable medical conditions, such as post-operative recovery, cardiac issues, or respiratory conditions.
Recognize changes in patient conditions and initiate appropriate interventions, including notifying physicians of significant changes.
Perform continuous cardiac monitoring, assess pain, and address concerns in a timely manner.
Care Planning and Collaboration:
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including physicians, respiratory therapists, and physical therapists, to develop and modify care plans.
Educate patients and families about treatment plans, medication regimens, discharge instructions, and self-care needs.
Provide emotional support to patients and families dealing with acute or chronic conditions.
Safety and Compliance:
Adhere to infection control protocols, safety guidelines, and hospital policies.
Ensure the environment is safe for patients, reporting hazards and maintaining equipment.
Implement care strategies that ensure patient safety, such as fall precautions, pain management, and wound care.
Documentation and Communication:
Accurately document assessments, nursing interventions, and patient progress.
Communicate effectively with the healthcare team regarding changes in patient conditions or concerns.
Maintain clear and comprehensive patient records to ensure continuity of care.
Patient Education:
Educate patients and families about their conditions, treatments, and discharge planning.
Provide guidance on lifestyle modifications, medication adherence, and post-discharge care.
Qualifications:
Education:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (ADN or BSN).
Completion of accredited RN program.
Licensure/Certification:
Valid state RN license.
Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification, depending on the facility's requirements.
Experience:
Prior experience in a hospital setting is preferred.
Experience in stepdown, telemetry, ICU, or progressive care is a plus.
Skills:
Proficiency in patient monitoring, medication administration, and use of medical equipment.
Strong critical thinking, assessment, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work well in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.

Pay: $2,503.00 - $2,632.00 per week
