SummaryThe Yard Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of trailers within the distribution yard. This role supports warehouse and transportation operations by positioning trailers at dock doors, maintaining yard organization, and ensuring timely flow of inbound and outbound freight in a fast-paced 3PL (third-party logistics) environment.Key ResponsibilitiesSafely operate a yard tractor (spotter truck) to move trailers to and from dock doors and designated yard locationsPerform daily equipment inspections and report maintenance or safety issues promptlyMaintain accurate records of trailer locations using yard management systems (YMS) or manual logsCoordinate with warehouse, dispatch, and transportation teams to prioritize trailer movesEnsure trailers are properly secured, including wheel chocks, landing gear, and trailer locksMonitor yard conditions to ensure a safe, clean, and organized environmentVerify trailer numbers, seal integrity, and load status as requiredAssist with basic yard audits and inventory tracking of trailers and containersAdhere to all company safety policies, OSHA guidelines, and DOT regulationsRespond to changing operational needs, including peak volume periods and weather conditionsQualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent preferredPrevious yard driver, CDL, or commercial driving experience preferredValid driver’s license required; CDL may be required depending on operationAbility to operate yard tractor and back trailers safely in tight spacesStrong attention to detail and situational awarenessBasic computer skills or experience with warehouse/yard management systemsAbility to communicate effectively with team members and supervisorsPhysical RequirementsAbility to sit, stand, and walk for extended periodsFrequent climbing in and out of yard tractorAbility to work outdoors in varying weather conditionsAbility to lift up to 50 lbs occasionallyWork EnvironmentFast-paced distribution yard with frequent vehicle and equipment movementExposure to weather elements (heat, cold, rain, etc.)May require night, weekend, or holiday shifts depending on business needsPreferred SkillsExperience in a 3PL or high-volume distribution centerFamiliarity with safety protocols and yard management systems (YMS)Strong time management and ability to prioritize tasksCompensation details: 21 Hourly WagePIa4b301009d34-25448-40460775
